Is 17.92 dKH lethal?? I hope not.

Stupid me. I had my 90 SPS that was loaded with coral and my 40 frag plumbed together. So...what happens when you shut down the 90 SPS tank.....YOU SHUT DOWN THE CALCIUM REACTOR TOO!!!!!

Well, smart folks do anyway. Tested with API and LaMotte and both give me right at 18dKH. Fish are still swimming, shrimp still alive, and corals open.

Whatchall think, let it drop on it's own or freak out and change 50% water tonight?

"Signed, Oblivious but handsome"

Been drinking again tonight, huh?

I'll have you know....I only had 1 at that point.

I would think you could get some 2 part, don't add the alk portion until the dKH comes down.. And make sure your Mag is OK..

The safe bet is several small water changes over the next few days..

I would do a water change! Sudden changes kills everything, but that is way off!

I put a xenia into my biocube with higher levels; it started to die. Then, I took it out and put it back in the original tank, it recouped.

Good luck, choose the lesser of the two evils.

I take a half ga of vodka dump a few mils in the tank and then finish the bottle off myself because everything is is going to be.:eek2:

freak out and do a water change

really this is a tough one, another sudden change can do you in.

I think I'll do a 10 gallon change. That's 25%. Hopefully not too sudden. It's mostly zoas and soft stuff so the alk usage would take a long time to diminish on it's own.

you can add some calcium to bring down the alk. if you had sps the tips would burn and bubble. take it from a 14 dkh at one point by a freaked out calcium reactor while i was on vacation. would do less of a water change maybe do 4 2.5 gallon ones over the next 2 days. 1 in the morning one at night

If you change and drop the dkh within 2 dkh per change, You would be fine with a few water changes. Perhaps at least one in the morning and then one at night like rrcg50.

Keep us posted on the outcome.

Just got a chance to check the water. Alk has dropped to 16...that's 2 dKH in a day with no water changes yet. I was letting the new SW mix real good before a change. I'm changing in a few minutes and will check later tonight.

any coral problems?

What little SPS/LPS is in there seems unaffected. Zoas ....not so much. They are not as happy as I would like to see. But not dieing.

water change, water change, and more water change at intervals, watch the ph.

Weird, I turned on my Ph monitor and it is at 8.32....highest I ever saw it. I figured the excess reactor + CO2 would have it low.

The alkalinity is bringing the pH high. I think everything should be ok since you caught it right away. The dkh should change no more than 2dkh/day. You are at 2.5 per day so I think you are fine. Wont see drastic changes until a week or so.

Got a pic?
