is a 20 too small

I wouldn't think so, not with proper lighting and feeding. These are not clown hosts, though. I hope you understand that before getting it. I think the clowns would probably rip the anem sheath and destroy it if they tried to host it.

The anemone would eat the clownfish. Shame as tube anemones are beautiful. If I get a fuge im getting a tube anemone.

No, the tube anemone especially would not eat a clownfish. Tube anemones are filter feeders and plancktonic feeders, not meat eaters such as S. Haddoni. Tube anemones also prefer colder water than our pacific host anemones.

I decided against a tube and got a green BTA insted at the advice of the girl at the LFS. Just waiting for it to find a place now. Its walking all over the place!!!

Yes it doesn't matter if you have strong lighting or not. They have no zooxanthellae. Green puffers, what kind of lighting do you have?

I liked how you referred to a general webpage. Got any real references?

I like how you can't do your own research!

From Wetwebmedia.com:

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/tubeanem.htm

"Tube anemones are not symbiotic with Clownfishes! They will gladly eat them and other hapless subjects if presented the opportunity."

From a hobbiest on Reefcentral, with pics:

If your still not convinced, try contacting someone like Steven Pro, Anthony Calfo, Robert Fenner or Ronald Shimek.

redvipe2010, all tube anemones will not eat fish. I had one for 4 years kept with all kinds of small fish and not one time did a fish go missing. I said Tube anemones would not eat clownfish, not regular fish. I am sure your regular fish have been eaten by tube anemones but not clownfish. They are probably somewhat immune to the sting with that extra mucus they have.

I am still not convinced about the whole clownfish thing. Clownfish are too big to be swallowed anyways. Duh!

Duh!

Maybe you should try reading the article again! I made it easy for you. I quoted it for you. Please don't try to convince me that you know more than the names I previously listed. It is a known fact in this hobby that clownfish have been eaten by tube anemones.

Too funny. :D

Tube anemones are not related to the clown-hosting anemones. I agree that they will eat clowns.

55semireef, just because your clowns didn't get eaten doesn't mean that others' won't. Maybe your clowns were just a little more wary of it. There are always people who get away with situations that would normally make us scream, like having clowns and damsels in the same tank. Some people just have the extreme luck to have it work out okay. You know that.

True Random Aquarist. I think when we say tube anemones will eat clowns is to general. A tube anemone might be able to catch and eat an Ocellaris while it might not have the capability to eat a Clarkii since Clarkiis are better swimmers and are larger. So I guess I could be right and wrong. I never really thought about the differences among clownfish. Never occured to me. I have always had Clarkii clownfish.

Sorry Traveller7. I don't know what got in to me. And sorry Greenpuffers, this was your thread. Sorry once again.

Its all good guys, I at least learned not to go with the tube to be on the safe side. Just waiting formy BTA to perk up after the shock of the move.
