Is a 47" stand too tall?

My aquarium is 19" high for a total height of 66". I wanted something a little more eye level but while sitting down it's a bit harder to see. I'm debating between 44" and 47" tall.

Anyone have experience with taller stands?

Is a 47" stand too tall?

I just built my own stand and I made it 40" tall which is eye level while seated. I love it! I didn't want to go too high because then if have to use a step stool when trying to reach the bottom when moving stuff around. Don't get me wrong my arm is all the way in at 60" tall. (My stand at 40" and tank at 20".)

As long as it's stable at that height, go for it.

It'll be stable, but obviously not as stable as a stand that sits lower, just due to the center of mass being much higher. In attempt to counteract this a little bit, I plan on making the stand a little wider than the aquarium.

I actually like the higher stands. Or maybe my couch is just real low. I spend alot of time looking my tank and don't like to hunch over it

Beautiful stand! The area where I plan on putting my aquarium won't have any seating. Myself and others will have to admire it from standing.

You're totally right about the step stool. I know with my last aquariums I always had my hands in there doing things. Re-arranging rock work, moving a coral, digging something out. I don't know, maybe if it's higher I'll be more inclined to leave it alone. :)

My first tank stand I built I made it tall enough so it was eye level. I liked it but it was annoying to do simple cleaning. Now I built a new one at 40" so it was tall enough so it would be like a bar area. Nice to sit, drink a beer, and watch the fishes.

I build stands for local reefers and 48 tall is fine. I've built all the way up to 60. Just make sure it's stable. Add some feet if you need to

Any other ideas on how to make it stable? I plan on making it a little wider than the aquarium.

My stand is taller than I am, counting the canopy---36" deep tank. I use a stepladder when accessing the interior. But it fills a corner nicely.

Very nice.

The most common height I build at is 36", and occasionally I will get someone that wants around 40-42" or so, but I think everyone that I've gone that tall for has later told me they regret going that high.
I would not advise going taller than 40" unless there really is a specific need.
My tank right now is on a 36" high stand and 24" deep tank w/ an open top canopy, it's pretty easy to access w/ a folding step ladder, any taller you are going to need a real ladder, and you may be surprised how often you are going to need to get in there to clean or fish things out, and may find that to be a pain.

My 120DT sits on a stand that is 36" tall, so 61" to the top. I'm 5'11", and need a step stool for any maintenance, but it is a very nice view height. The stand that my 150L sits on is 42" tall. It is a royal pain to do anything in it.

My 220g I had the top of the stand was at 47", made the tank eye height. I hate bending over to look at a tank

I think its all personal preference, I like the tank a little below eye level, so I get a nice view when I sit down

I've built my last three stands at 40" and i really like that height. 47" would seem a little tall to me but somewhere in the 42"-44" range would be fine.

I built a 45" tall stand for a 24" tall tank. It's the perfect height for me when standing or sitting on a bar stool. It doesn't work well for everyone else in my family, but I'm OK with that. As others have said, it's all personal preference.
