Is adding new fish a problem for you?

I was more curious than anything in regards to the topic. The tank has been up for awhile and the last 4 fish that I have tried to add have all been chased and stressed to the point where they do not make it.

This has only become a problem since I paired up the joculators. They have not played well with any new tank mates. One of them bothered a tang so bad that it ended up dying in a coral colony because it was looking for protection.

I've tried all the tricks and sooner or later, its the same result. I guess it a sign that I am done adding fish for awhile. Thats probably a good thing as I was debating upgrading my skimmer :p

Same here. I cannot add a thing. All of the fish just go nuts, even with the fish that I would not suspect to be aggressive.

Mark, have you tried keeping the newcomers in a specimen container for a while before releasing them into the tank? That's the reason I made the ones I have. They are big enough that the new fish can literally live in them comfortably for weeks if needed. My current plan is to keep the male watanabei in there for at least a couple of weeks before I even think about letting him out to meet the ladies.

I've never had a problem adding fish. I guess I'm lucky? :D Here's my stock list in my 180. Going to get one more tang and I'm done with fish(hopefully :p ). :)

Everytime Kenny. When a pygmy starts to attack a maculiceps after being in the tank together for a few months, I don't think thats the issue. BUT.....I though were were going to make me a fish trap. I need to catch these darn chromis; ;)

Moses, Everything was fine until they worked out their dominance chain of command. That takes awhile and if I remember right, your tank and livestock are still pretty new.

btw, you'll never be done adding fish :D I know I'm not ;)

Yea after all that I knew I had to take some fish out in order to add new fish. At this point I can add small fish without them getting killed in there.

Yeah, still kinda newish. :p

True, true... LOL

I have an aggressive tank, though my leopard wrasse is by far the worst. I made a little cage with PVC and gutterguard that floats in my tank. Whenever I get a new fish and it's done being QT'd I put that cage in the tank, put appropriate sized PVC tubes in the cage so that the fish has somewhere to hide, and add the fish. All of the existing tank inhabitants can attempt to be aggressive with no success. Usually the newcomer stays out swimming around in the cage and when the other fish find out the new fish isn't intimidated they give up. The longest I've had to keep a fish in this cage was 3 days.

It is tough for me as well to add new fish. I have a PBT as well that does not like new comers. Last time I did, the PBT broke out with ick and gave all the others ick. :(

Maybe time to remove the PBT until I'm done adding fish.

I couldn't agree more! :D

Now you have me worried Mark. I expect to get my 2 jocs this weekend. I know I will always want to add a new found wrasse now and then. I didn't know the jocs would be that aggressive towards others.

Mark, You can send your Jocs my way. I can be their new Daddy. I will take very good care of them, and you can come visit if you like.

This way you can add additional fish ;)

Maybe its just me, but I have heard that they were more aggressive in pairs. A friend once told me that one of her jocs pestered her interuptus' so bad that they had to be seperated (If I remember correctly)
I am sure it is just my pair ;)
