Is an emerald crab dangerous to the lavender mushroom?

I have a 90 gallon reef tank, as soon as my light go out my emerald constantly tries to get to my lavender mushroom (Rhodactis sp.) ( AKA, Purple Frilly Mushroom, Tonga Lavender Mushroom, Fiji Green Hairy Mushroom, Green Hairy Mushroom, Green Frilly Mushroom), as far as I know the emerald crab is herbivorous and is supposed to be reef safe. I am worried that the crab is trying to eat my lavender mushroom. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before?

i dont have any problems with my emerald crab, however he is bigger than a silver dollar just the body.. some people dont like cuz not all emerald crabs are reef safe..i guess i got lucky..

My emeralds (I have 4), like to pick at algae that is growing around the mushroom, but have never actually picked at them. I would watch yours and see if he is trying to get at something under or around your mushroom or actually nipping at it...

From what I have seen, if you'll watch your tank at night, under moonlights, sot the crab can't see movement in the room... you'll get a chance to watch him in action and discover if you have bigscott's variety of gently crab or my variety of drag all the frags off the live rock into the sand variety. When I was having trouble, I read a lot of posts and people seem to be split on these 2 opinions and it seems a lot is based on their own experience. Like most things in this hobby, no definitive answer.... your experince may vary........ good luck.
