Is CMAC VI happening?

It's happening. It will be in May, and we still have to decide this week between two locations. Formal announcement to be coming soon.

The Mohegan is just going to drain our wallets. By "our" I mean your's, mine, and everyone else's. The price of tickets would be high, that would drive away attendance, and the club would have to recoup through the limited savings. Go someplace that is affordable.

Sure, being at the casino is neat, but I'm not there to see the casino, I can do that another night and drive someplace potentially closer and definitely cheaper.

The casino was nice, but it makes sense to find a place that is more affordable. Brenda and I will be coming up from RI no matter where it is.

I have put together the last 3 Conference almost single handedly. Yes, it takes many people the day of the event, but 1 or 2 people can put it together. It takes months to coordinate – I started working them at MACNA.

Mohegan Sun is very affordable. We have been able to keep ticket prices at $25 (at the door – early bird ticket buyers paid as little as $5) and the parking is free. Compare that to Long Islands NERAC (http://www.neracvi.com)– and Boston’s BRASS – the CTARS Conference is a bargain. The CTARS Conference has grown over the years. The 1st Conference at Wesleyan University in May of 2006 drew 45 to 50 people. Compare that to last year’s Conference that drew over 400 people. The conservative breakeven last year was ~325 attendees. My understanding is that there were over 400 attendees. That means the club should have made several thousand dollars.

To find a place that can hold 400+ attendees and over 2 dozen vendors is going to be tough (especially at this late date). It is also late to be asking vendors to come and top speakers. May is also a tough month to hold a conference. You have 2 weekends with holidays, college graduations and people have been suffering from cabin fever – going to a reef conference will not be top on their list of things to do. Look at your May meeting attendance over the past several years. Jan & Feb you have 75 – 100 people at a meeting, come May you have 20 – 25. People would rather be outside.

If you are looking to downsize the conference, in my opinion, you’re doing the club an injustice. This conference draws people from all over the northeast. People have come to expect a bigger a better conference than the last. Putting on a smaller conference would make next year’s conference very difficult. You would be better off, cancelling it and start planning for next year. People next year would not have this year’s to compare to and would make it much easier for you to put on a successful event.

I agree that each years ongoing conference should be better then the previous year but in defense of NERAC, the $35 includes lunch and there is parking in the rear if you get there early enough.

well as long as were voting i vote for the crown plaza in Cromwell. mind as well be in my backyard. :lol2:

I will be there. I don't care if I have to pay extra to park. And I agree with you also that each years ongoing conference should be better then the previous year. IDK maybe I expect too much. But heck I'll be paying almost $100 for the ferry ride over. Hopefully split 4 ways though. :D

I don't care where it is, I'll be there... last years was great! As far as I remeber the whole issue was timing as there was a big conference in NY the week prior with most of the same vendors and such and a lot of the locals went to both and were upset it was the same stuff... Can't wait for more details, I'm sure it'll be great where ever it is

There is a Sheraton at the airport, along with the LaRennasance less than five miles from BDL. There is less effort picking up speakers. The Marriott and Hilton are also on Day Hill Rd Windsor less than five miles from BDL with space to accomadate most events. Getting rid of Cabin Fever means getting out and going to a C.T.A.R.S Conference, Top of any Reefers List serious about the hobby and there investment.
