Is distilled water the equivalent of RO?

I wanted to keep a few gallons as backup for evaporation in the event I cannot get to my LFS. I recall hearing awhile back that I could use store bought distilled water as it had the same or similar parameters as RO water.

I live in S. FL and want to have some on backup since we're in hurricane season.

Yes you can certainly keep/use distilled water...
The process to make each is different but the end result is basically the same.. In fact distilled water is usually "more pure"..

It's as good as your company's reputation and practice. Test your dissolved solids (TDS) with a meter on every bucket you add. A problem isn't likely, but can happen. We had a problem in OKC some decades ago where a company selling distilled had it running in a copper collector, and some was getting through, even as fresh water. A TDS check is something you should do on ro/di you make and that also goes for water you've trusted somebody else to produce.

just buy a RO unit. they aren't that expensive. That way you know your water is good. ive seen LFS with ro water that had really really high TDS.

I get rodi water from Whole Foods. A rodi unit in the long run is cheaper but I live in a small apartment and didn't want to deal with the hassle since my tank is only 8g
