Is it possible for new tang to contract severe ich after a few hours?

Yes. Some people use 5 gallon buckets.

Buckets? That seems kinda cruel... I have 2 firefish in the QT right now and i'm wondering if i should try TTM, but i only have 1 extra heater which is being used on the QT... Sorry OP, didn't mean to kinda jack the thread, but hopefully your fish get better :/ Best of luck :)

Not something I've done but I can see how desperate times might call for desperate measures.

The kole tang is doing better now being under cupramine treatment. All white spots are gone (next phase of the ich cycle) it is swimming around and glazing algae on glass and pvc pipes. Most importantly its respiration is back to normal so it might have a chance to live.

great to hear! are you using any vitamin supplements? if not, i'd start soaking his food. selcon and vita-chem are the ones i use.

After dealing with my own recent ich outbreak, my fiance and I have decided to steer clear from tangs. It isn't that they all have ich, but there are other fish that are less susceptible to ich. It is a good thing that you have the fish in a QT.
Also, I am sorry that your LFS lied about running copper. I can totally relate to the labour intensive process of eradicating ich. Again, just be thankful it isn't in your DT :)

Not yet because it is only eating algae on glass at the moment. Once it starts eating other food i will soak with vitamins n garlic.

actually i do have a question now. In 8 to 10 weeks time when ich is gone completely and if it gets a bit stressed out when i catch it to put back in DT, then in theory it wouldn't have another ich outbreak since it has no ich. Is it correct thinking?

This. Causes a parasite to show up in the 3-4 week time frame. Lots of people have been burned by this. They thought that keeping a fish for a month at the LFS was in fact a quarantine period. Quite the contrary.

Steve, you are spot on there. That was exactly how i first got burnt. After waiting 2 months to let my first and new marine tank to cycle, i added my first fish directly into DT without quarantine because i thought that fish was healthy n being new tank it is ich free. Then bang, ich burst out because LFS was running mild copper to mask parasites. Learnt it the hard way n started quarantine all new fish from then.
