so can i do a fresh water dip on sps frags? i dont have any interceptor handy and dont want my tank to be infected with red bugs. I was thinking if i can do a quick dip maybe 5-10 secconds maybe all the RB will fall off. I know it can be stressful or even deadly to sps but i think most are quite hardy and can withstand a quick dip.

i dont' think 5-10 seconds is long enough to get them off, let us know

what types of sps?

why not buy soem iodine dip.. like tropic marin coral cure.. that is better for the corals anyways...

I have had great success with doing a heavy lugols for an hour or so until there off the coral. I've done the fw thing with bad success.

from what i've heard iodine/lugol / tropic marine dip arent that great of a preventative measure. But what other choice do we have eh?

Never heard that one before.

Iodine would affect [kill] some of the bacterial community on the coral surface - not something I would think an overall positive for the coral IMO.

Personally, I'm all for targeted treatments for a known pest vs. wholesale dipping without inspection/QT. IMO, it's less stressful for a coral to go into QT, more reliable too.
