is it safe to crawl inside my 150 DD?

I tore it down last night so I can move the tank while we have new floors installed. I'm looking at it as an opportunity to redo some stuff (aquascaping mainly). The 27in height makes aquascaping a real challenge so I'm wondering if I can just crawl in the empty tank to do the aquascaping. I weigh around 165lbs. The tank is a stock, non starfire Marineland DD cube.

I would think it would be ok. As that kind of tank should be able to hold at least 1000 lbs or more. Well Just the water at 150 gallons is around 1500 lbs in water weight .
Just dont wear anything on your feet.

Huge difference between 1200 pounds of water spread out equally along all surfaces versus focusing 165lbs in one small area (your knees,etc...)

How thick is the glass? 5/8" ? I personally wouldn't do it. Maybe put a piece of plywood in there to kneel on and use a stool for the area the plywood covered. Better safe than sorry man that's a big expense if it cracks.

No way, Jose! I wouldn't risk it, not even for the best looking aquascape.

not a chance. and if you do, wear shoes! your weight in bare feet will be all in the heel and if that cracks, you may cut yourself and bleed a lot.

Just reach in and do it the right way. Take some Alleve beforehand and know that your back will be hurting the next day. hahaha

your better off using a step stool, reach tool, ladder etc to have more access to the inside of the tank than trying to crawl inside...

I would definitely not risk placing that much weight on limited pressure points, splitting a seam is definitely a bad thing...

Not worth the risk to your tank or you. If you do go through it will cut you up good.

Even though the bottom glass is likely tempered, I wouldn't take a chance. I'd feel like I were walking on eggshells!

wow. interesting opinions. I crawled inside my 180 and 225 both with 1/2" glass bottoms without any issues. I was in the 225 reworking all of the silicone and installing a new end panel. never did I fear breaking it.

maybe it was not a good idea, but ....

If it's not safe how does everyone get their "mermaid" shots with people in their tanks?

Personally I wouldn't do it either, I like watching the things I put in my little box, not being in it.

When i aquascaped my 265 i walked in it stood in it no difference then having hundreds of pounds of rock in the bottom of it...
