ok well heres a pic of my 180G tank 6x2x2

currently i only have 2-250W Phoenix 14K bulbs on PFO HQI ballast and mini pendants

all my corals seem happy and are growing at a decent rate....

i never got the 3rd halide cuz of the power bills out here in southern california....

do u think its really worth it to add a 3rd halide or should i just stay with the 2 i have....?? its not the cost of the setup im worried about its my electric bill

i keep my softies and lps around the edges where the 2 halides arent as bright and the sps in the brighter areas but even so i think the tank looks decent and doesnt look too bad

Considering spread and your aquascape [not to mention the other factors]... I'd say leave it as is :)

Looks good

thanks i was wondering if the benefits of a 3rd light would be worth it considering i dont think im guna carry sps to the edges any way cuz i like my softies and lps where they are

Actually I think your light setup is perfect for your tank, and is what allows you to keep such a diverse group of corals looking so nice. You've done well with you coral placement too. IMO most LPS look much healthier when kept in moderate to low light. If you wanted to start makeing the tank an SPS dominated tank then you might think about the third light.

thanks david.... as of now i have about 18 different acros in the tank from mini colonies to frags and im hoping they will grow out nciely and fill in the tank in about a year and give it a nice grown in mixed reef look....

i really like sps but i like all the other corals too lol they have been with me for a while since my old tank was transferred to this 180 back in feb this year...

seems like the sps are doing well and have held there colors as well heres 2 pics so u can a lil more close up...

will they color up even better with a 3rd light?

As the old saying goes" If it ain't broke, don't fix it". The tank looks great.

What he said.

thanks for the compliments i guess ill save on the power bill and stay with just 2 lights ... it seems like u guys kinda like it so ill just leave good enuf alone!

Donkin... thanks this clams cool i have 3 but my other 2 croceas are in the sump cuz the blue hippo tang bite at them now and it was easier to gert the clams out of the tank than the hippo...

the squamosa clam is a fast grower this thing sucks up the calcium for sure! it was a cool pattern thats y i picked him up its a dark brown color with golden spots and blue spots inside of those.... its grown about 2" at least since i got it about 5-6 months ago

What kind of light setup do you have? Are they pendants? Single Ended or double? Reason I ask is Ive heard if you get the nice high end reflectors (can't remember their name right off the top of my head) they might do a better job of disbursing the light if you wanted to give it a try..

Lookin good, don't change a thing. The green green birdnest can be moved up a little, but I don't know how long you've had it it there. lOOKIN GOOD.

i know that tank;)
hey murph,
as always the tank is looking great so i see no need for another halide. i love how you have such a diverse group and not having a 3rd halide is partialy what allows you to do that. you probably dont need another halide, just dont place the higher lighting sps far from the center spot of the lights.
PS: i remember a while ago you saying how you had bought a superman that was like 4"s by 3"s or something for like 40 bucks form a wholesaler....well i thought of you today when i spent 40 bucks on 1" sq...... lol. i cried a little on the inside but it is all good.
tank looks great :)
