Is my lights too close?

Hi,

I was wondering if my lights are too close to the top of my tank for SPS. It's a 58G Oceanic tank and Canopy with a single 175W MH and to 24" VHO's. The bulbs are about 6-7 inches from the water surface with a glass top in between to protect the bulbs from splashes. My LR goes as high as 4-5 inches from the water surface. Will that be too much light?

Not really. It all depends on what you want to keep and the light spread.

Okay thanks. The MH covers most of the tank except for the far ends. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't frying any corals with the light that close.

Some DE bulbs especially 10K has UV. Unless you have SE and 20K, you'd better make your lamp higher.

I have 10K SE bulbs around 6 or 7" from the surface, no problems and no glass top.

Yes, its SE 175W 14k.
