I would say yes. Not sure anyone will have direct experience with this... Once I removed the foam cover on my MP-40 I think the flow increased a little, anyway my NEM moved and got stuck.. So unless you are 200% sure that you anemone is not moving then leave the foam guard on.
I dont like that foam covers because they are just one more thing to add to my maintenance routine. I had the Gig for 6 months or so and I was 100% sure it wasnt gonna move.. I was wrong.
About a month after I got the MP-40 I took off the foam covers.. That night when I got home from work the anemone was completely shredded. I was wrong.. it moved. It was a tank I recently sold.. I have lots of pics of the anemone and pics of the tank for sale but nothing like a FTS with everything in it.
