Is there any evidence red bugs keep AEFW in check?

There have been a lot of local folks finding out they have red bugs. One reefer treated for the bugs and cleared them out, then in a few days he saw AEFWs on his coral. So for some that killed the red bugs and then the AEFW became an issue, so they feel if they hadn't killed the red bugs they wouldn't have AEFWs out and about. I feel it was just a matter of time with the AEFW, red bugs or not.
I think 2 totally different pests and no relationship between the 2.
I'd love to get a poll about it but just feedback is fine too, thanks.
Did you treat for red bugs?
Did you have AEFW before treatment that you were aware of?
If you had AEFW did they become more active after red bug treatment?
After red bug treatment did you have an AEFW problem?
I know this may scrambled up but you get the idea.

I have heard reports of this as well. I have not seen a more controlled or scientific study. My guess is this is more or less just a coincidence. People who don't take proactive measure to prevent RB or AEFW will probably end up having both one way or another anyway.

Red bugs are parasite and AFEW are predator. It's fairly well known that parasites normally do not kill their host (think of them as mosquitos; just very annoying). It's, however, not every common to find a parasite that will protect it's host from another predator. If such an relationship exist, the animal would not be categorized as parasite in the first place (because it actually serve a purpose). If red bugs do in fact protect the host coral, then this must only happen in a closed system where the parasite tries to keep the predator at bay so it doesn't loose it's host (which in turn will mean the parasite will die as well).

Did you treat for red bugs?

Yes.

Did you have AEFW before treatment that you were aware of?

No AEFW before and no AEFW after either.

If you had AEFW did they become more active after red bug treatment?

No AEFW.

After red bug treatment did you have an AEFW problem?

No AEFW.

Cool thread. Cant wait to see where this one goes. Sorry dont have any info to add except that I have red bugs and no AEFW
