Is this a strange looking gig?

I've had an LFS contact me about a gigantea they got in. They sent me the above picture(not the greatest). Has anyone seen a gigantea like this before with such bright tentacles and a dark base? Could it have been dyed, or is this how green gigantea's can look sometimes?

Thanks for the comparison picture. They've had it in for a little while now, so I think I'm going to take the dive and give another one a try. I guess I'm just getting used to seeing them so bleached.

It was very sticky when I went to put it in the system to the point where I had to put on a latex glove. This is my second crack at one, so I'm hoping it goes better than my first.

At the LFS, it was in a large tank with 250 MH's. There was a spot in the middle where one of the MH's was turned off and they told me that is where it had moved to for the 2.5 weeks they had it. I placed a tonne of egg crate over it in my system to try to duplicate the shade and will slowly take off layer's so my LED's don't bother it.

It didn't move overnight and its mouth was still nicely closed still. It caught some fish food, but my clownfish nicely ate it all before it could get any.

So my gigantea really spread out a lot today. I'm assuming that it wanted more light, so I took a couple of egg crates off. Would this be a fair assumption, or am I missing something else? Its mouth is still tightly closed.

Bleached or not I never hold back light on my Gigantea or Magnifica. Full blast from the start, even when they are bleached.

You have a very nice Gigantea. i always like green Gigantea much more than Blue or Purple. However, a healthy Gigantea is a great buy doesn't matter what color.

It moved right to the top of the Rick and expanded, so I took all the egg crate off.

It's a little closed up as I just fed it.

Looks and sounds like you've got yourself a healthy gig. The color and tentacle extension look good. I agree with Minh that you can blast them with light. My gig seems to like LED light as well.

4 weeks is a good marker to decide whether or not the gig will be okay long term. In this time period, as long as the mouth stays tight, it's eating, it's oral disk doesn't appear to be balding in the center, and it doesn't shrivel up, I think you'll be fine.

Light and flow is the key. They almost can't have too much of either. From the photos, it appears like it is nicely spread out and getting lots of flow. The long the tentacles, in general, the happier they are :) So far so good!

Make sure not to feed too much at one time. Be careful if you feed raw foods that they are completely fresh and don't have the slightest hint of an off color or odor. If you wouldn't eat it yourself, don't feed it to your gig!

How often do people usually feed a gigantea?

Other people might have different experiences, but I would feed mine every 2 - 3 days. I used to feed frozen mixed foods that I would thaw and soak in Selcon. The clowns would supplementally feed the anemone as well.
