Is this a superman monti?

Hi,
A friend of mine is selling me this monti as a superman danae.
It´s about $220 bucks (ouch!)
So before I make this big expense I would like to know if this is worth the money or not.
Supposedly this is aquacultured, but really can´t tell.
Thanks
Marco

Doesn't look like it.
What's nice about the Superman monti is the contrast between the polyps and the flesh.
No much contrast on that piece.
Could be just the photo but if it looks like that in person, I'd say its not the real one.

Yeah, it´s supposed to have red polips but in the picture it doesn´t look like it.
Actually I told the guy for a closer pic with open polips and he said he doesn´t have one, but that some polips are out in this pic.
Ok, let´s hear what other guys have to say,
thanks

Mmm, I think of him as a friend. Probably he doesn´t even know how to id a superman, but that thing is pricey! so that´s why I decided to post here.
I´m not buying that monti, you guys just saved me $220.00
Thanks

I've seen quite a few of these aquacultured pieces in the last 6 months. Some vendors try to pass them off as a small-polyped version of the superman.

I don't see any resemblance. I guess it's kind of like the Superman Returns movie. It's the small-headed version.

Take that 220$ and head on over to Reefer Madness. They are awesome, and no I don't work there. I just bought from them this week though!

It is more of a Porites. There are no verrracue on these at all. Montiporas would have some texture to them and wouldnt show such a big indent when the polyps are pulled in. There are three colors rolling around in the trade right no: purple/purple polyps, purple/white polyps and purple/red polyps.

Superman is more of a color combo for people to identify with than an actual piece of coral. Im not saying there wasn't an original superman coral, but now the term is use to compare...kinda like tissue and klenex or copy and xerox.

Hope this helps.:)

I have one of those as well. It's more of a purple with smaller red polyps than the superman. They are coming in aquacultured from Surabaya. I believe they might be Montipora Mollis. That's the best id i've had so far. I got mine on sale for $50 but normally they are $60 for a good size colony.

Actually he is selling those in $280, but because I´m his "friend", he gave me a 20% disscount, so $220.00 is supposedly a bargain.:D

The problem is I live in Mexico, so I can´t buy @ RM, that´s why corals are expensier in here.
But I want to visit atlantis aquarium in the near future and buy some frags.

Yeah, I´m gonna buy a frag somewhere else.
He is a sales person, but probably didn´t know what a superman monti looks like.
Thanks
