Is this carpet anemone a good buy?

Wow!.... I am seriously thinking about trying a magnifica. But that means I'll have to do something with my LTA. I don't have room for all the BTAs and my LTA if I try to add a magnifica. Since my clowns spend most of the time in their BTA colony.

Here are pics some of the anemones I saw. Maybe you can tell if the one on the tank wall is a magnifica.

The one on the tank wall is a heteractis magnifica.

That blue one is a goner. If thats his mouth, then it is definatley sick. Though Ive never seen an anemone that color? Very nice though if it were healthy.

Are you sure the third pic isnt a coral? Sabae?

Thanks mona. Definately looks like ritteri to me. That last does look like crispa (maybe malu) but starving...

Too bad about that blue gigantea sure does look like it was a beautiful specimen.

Mobert - Luckygoldfish in Oakland has a very nice bright green hoddoni about 8"(That I saw yesterday) If you are interested?

What LFS was the green gigantea on the large rock at?

Great thread. I just bought my first 2 carpat anenomes yesterday. I got a blue and a green from someone from craigslist.com that was taking down his tank. Glad I found this thread before I had to move them someday.

No Haddoni for me...not a natural host and no sand bed. The green Gigantea was at King Aquarium in San Jose. I saw it again last Wednesday, a week after the picture was taken and it still looked good, or rather as good as when the above picture was taken 8 days earlier.

I wish lucky Goldfish was closer to me. I like looking for cute Orandas.

Vancouverman, contrats. You have a much better chance with an anemone that has been aclimated to captivity than one that was just pulled from the ocean and tortured. Can we see pics?

So does this guy look healthy? He eats like a pig and is very, very sticky. I'm trying to sell him for $85 shipped , but want to make sure he's healthy before I actually do sell him, since there are some carpet "pros" on here right now.

But the part I wanted to mention, I don't think there's such thing as a yellow carpet (gigantea, haddoni or otherwise). These are most certainly bleached greens.

Exactly what these are. I see this particular color morph almost everytime I visit a particular wholesaler. I recently saw approximately 100 of these come in, all the same "yellow" bleached green coloration. Some looked nice and plump, however 90-95% of them looked wretched. Usually the smaller ones (3-5" in diameter) were the ones that looked OK. The rest unfortunately I wouldn't take even if they were free.

OK, my nitrates are down to zero and my lfs found this for me. I hope you folks think it's nice and healthy because it is now sitting in my tank. Here it is within minutes of being added:

By the way, the Percs seem to like the Gigantea over the BTA's. They ID'd while it was still floating in the bag. :)

shutiny and OrionN, thanks for comments. Unfortunately, the anemone is not doing so good. It looked pretty good the first week, week and a half and gradually deflated more and more often and opening its mouth and getting saggy. I've witnessed the clowns forcing their way in its mouth and sometimes it looks like they are pulling stuff out. Naughty clowns. Sigh... I've changed the Tunze stream to add more direct flow. I'm on death watch now.
