I've been wondering this for awhile and I figured its time ask.
Most of my rockwork and wall are covered w nice pink/purple coraline algae. However there are some areas that have a dark maroon colored algae.I thought at first it was some kind of cyano. It is slimy to touch but does not remove with any brush or water movement.
It has never been a problem or caused any issues with any coral.
Thanks
First pic shows algae on return pipe.

I've had no problems with it or read about any problems. I don't know the proper way to describe it but coraline can have a soft outer layer.

You just need more water movement to get rid of it.

There is ALOT of flow in this tank.Very turbulent at times(2 vortech mp40s).
Some of it is growing in direct line of return. It will not remove with any brush or increased flow.
Hasn't been a problem just wondering what it is..

I have more of this CA than the other like 90:10 split.

Don't see how water movement would get rid of it either.

ive been dealing with the same thing i pressume the key is to watch and see if it receeds @ night, if so its cyno if not its a coraline ive come to read.
