Yes I am a Fish Geek and proud of it.

I used to be a Sargeant in Viet Nam Geek, electricity, whats that?

Then I was in Cambodia as a geek for a year. Plumbing, whats that?

Where I was in two geeky helocopter crashes.

Then I was a Geeky Construction Electrician foreman for 40 years
in Manhattan.

And a Geeky boat Captain and SCUBA diver. A geeky SCUBA diver with my own Geeky boat.

And I have wrestled with my share of amphipods, but they were very big amphipods. And I fought with plenty of spaghetti worms, giant spaghetti worms.
So Yes I am definately a geek.

And that's a pretty geeky artillery round you've got there, too ;)

I wish I were a nerd or geek so I could post pictures on here.

Reefer chick, this thread is so serious it's scarey, and fun and funny.

Take the time to notice. The people making fun of others at the same time making fun of themselves are the ones that get it.

And by the way. I have hair algae in my tank, and like it.

I don't know...I have been in this hobby for a little while and I have met such a wide range of people. My fiancee and I are both in the film industry for example (she also models). I have met a gang member who I traded frags with. I have met one of the geekyiest guys ever a week ago selling equipment. My father is a multimillionaire business man with a reef tank. My brother goes home with a different girl every weekend when we go clubbing it seems...maybe they stare at his reef tank LOL.

I think its crazy to think this hobby is for 'geeks' or 'nerds'. One of the great things about it is that it attracts all different people, ages, wealth, and occupations. Some people are WAY more serious about the hobby than I am for sure and I guess it can get a little geeky in the sense that they would prefer to spend a whole sunny day on their tank rather than go to the beach (you know who you are if you read this LOL)

the guy in the wheel chair that talks into a machine. (Wait for the nerd to know his name)

Stephen Hawking

DORK!

For sure this is a nerds/geeks paradise as it lends itself to it so much, there are more avenues than any computer science. But I also am a rocker a raver and a rebel, as well as many other things I have been called along the way. I also am a computer geek/nerd a hippy an activist and a pacifist.

I dont care what you call me, I like my tank and everyone who sees it can not believe there eyes.! Nor can I.... I decovered 4 different spicies of crab in my tank the other night, I did not put em in there, its great!

Well there are many kinds of reefers...

The ones who maintain a tank and not overly obsessed.. not a geek.
The ones who grow SPS, dose additives and live normal lives... not a geek.
The ones who occasionally frag things, go to frag swaps once in a while... not a geek.

The ones who memorizes Ionic Balance, Molecular Genetic Composition of Zooxanthellae, knows the PPFD values of EVERY bulb on a given ballast and still have browned out corals.....GEEK! :D

Paul, with a bod like that, I'm having a hard time believing that you're still looking for a supermodel. They should all be looking for YOU! :D

I have too much hair algae in my tank and I don't like it :(

I got the thread from the getgo,I just added my 2 cents thats all :) To each his own. Funny thread for sure! ;)

Most of that 19 year old body I lost somewhere :D

But they still let me drive the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier.
OK so I don't really drive it, but they did let me sit in the Captain's chair. (as long as I didn't touch anything. )

What's a geek?

Seriously, what's a geek?

If I drink a case of beer am I ok?
If I bench press 1000 lbs. am I in the clear
If the notches on my belt are triple digits am I not geeky (or just a walking STD)?

Since I suspect I'm a geek (or a nerd depending on which you ascribe knowlegable with varied intrests to and which is socially awkward) I am going to need to qualify the term before I submit my opinion. Need more data. :)

Occupation: Teacher = Nerd, not geek.

Wait a second. You notch your belt? Geek.

Well Teach. I just looked in my 2002 Websters "new" dictionary, and neither word are in it. So as you put it. No more data is available. From me anyway.

Need to wait for a geek or a nerd to find out the "data" on this.

I think a lot has to do with how you conduct yourself away from the tank(s)!...pretty sure I am neither nerd nor geek!
