Is this LTA right for my tank?

I have a 55gallon that has been established for a little over five years. For lighting I have 260 watts of coralife lighting. No algae issues, the tank is healthy. I have some mushrooms and a beautiful green leather toadstool that sits up higher in the tank on the rockwork. My sandbed is only 2-3" deep, but I would attempt to make a deeper sand accomodation in an area.

My friend has a badly bleached LTA that I could have - they had it in their sump without proper lighting because it didn't get along with their corals and carpet anemone.

Is there a chance that with some TLC I could rescue the LTA?

If the LTA could recover, what is the lifespan?

I am most concerned about an LTA killing my fish... but it seems like there is quite a variety of opinion on the threads as to whether or not they are much of a threat.

What type of bulbs are those PC's? 50/50s, daylights, actinic, mix?

But, to be honest, I really don't feel that that is going to be enough lights for an LTA (( Macrodactyla doreensis )), that would be a bigger concern then it eating your fish.

As for its lifespan, no one really knows for sure, but I would expect it to outlive you given the proper conditions.

I have two 24" PC fixtures, each with a 65 watt actinic bulb and a 65 watt 10,000k daylight bulb.

Are PC's in general not strong enough lighting for 'nems?

IMO, that won't be enough.

And in general, they aren't. Though if you switched those actinic bulbs out for a 50/50 (( another daylight would be better )) you could get away with an BTA (( E Quadricolor )), but still would be on the lower end.
