My peacock that I have ( only 2 days now) seems to be carrying a piece of krill in its mouth. Is this normal? Can a peacock choke on its food? I just shot pic of him holding the food.

Well I am glad that this is not an emergency. Since nobody could answer me on this. I guess he was just hording it. Now I am going to have fun trying to get it out of the pvc home, so it doesn't cause problems for my tank.

People aren't always able to respond right away. Or maybe they don't have the experience to lend you.

My peacock usually eats about 3 a day, or even every other day. Any more and he'll just hold onto it and eat it when he's hungry.

Be a bit more patient :)

Should leave the piece of krill in his home for tonight and see if maybe he eats it over night? Thank you for responding, I was just panicking. This only the second day of having him.

They cannot choke on their food, no worries. They have mandibles that completely shred their food into an unrecognizeable mass before they swallow. If the mantis does not give you the leftover food (my P. ciliata used to wait till i walked by the tank and then spit/threw the leftovers at me to remove) there is not much you can do except feed less next time. Try feeding every other day to once every 3 days. And if he starts burrying food make sure to remove it.

I know he ate part of a silverside at the lfs Saturday. I figured since he didn'get a chance to finish it I would give him a couple small pieces of krill. It looks like he ate one piece and only ate a small portion of the other. I was able to get one of the left over pieces to the gorilla crab in the tank. Just not sure on how to get the other pece out of the pvc home. Besides krill and silversides, what else could I feed him?

Mine loves just about any type of snail, but leaves my hermits alone for some reason.

He also enjoys crabs. I usually toss about 20 snails in there once a month, or once every other month and that will hold him for a while. Otherwise I feed him krill soaked in Selcon, and occasionally silversides.

Cool thanks. I will keep everybody updated on how he is doing and what i name him. Since it has only been 2 days I really don't know his personality is yet.

Holding food usually results from one of three things; the animal is nearing a molt, it is stressed, or it is sick. Given that you have only had the animal for two days, any of the above is possible. I would hold off feeding it for a couple of days. It won't starve and there is less chance that it will bury the uneaten food and foul the water.

It looks to me like ur stomatopod is holding eggs. If u have a clearer picture maybe Dr.Roy could identify what it is holding
