Is this normal?

I picked up a yellow wrasse 2 weeks ago from ABC. Every night when the MH's lights go off, like clockwork he goes to his spot in the tank and completely buries himself in my sand bed. You don't see him again for the rest of the night. You can't see any part of him.

Is this normal behavior for a yellow wrasse?

From saltwaterfish.com - Wrasses are one of the few fish that will bury themselves in the sand when sleeping or during fight. I guess must be normal.

If you are looking at the tank right after the lights come and you aren't paying too close attention, they can scare the #$@% out of you when they suddenly pop out of sand.

Another great benefit of this hobby, you see things you just wouldn't believe if someone described it to you.

Perfectly normal.

Dave , the yellow coris wrasse that you have purchased from ABC REEFS is acting 100% normal ,they will bury themselves at night . this is their defense so they done get eaten in the wild while sleeping and they all do it . i have 45 wrasses and when my lights go out my tanks look empty after a few minutes because of them burrowing in the sand to sleep .also make sure that your sand is medium to fine with no shells throughout because they can get cuts from the sharp shells . very nice peacefull fish there also and good luck .

Yup my sand is fine and no shells. When he goes under he kicks up a mini sand storm.
