Is this overkill, or is it even wise?

Would it be wise to put 2 400 watt 20,000k MH's on a standard 90g? Dimensions are 48lx24hx18w. They have the exact same setup on thier (LFS) 120 gallon. 120g has same dimensions it is just wider. Also would you say that 379.00 for both including everything for the hamilton mhs is a good price?

2 x 20k 400 watt MH on a 90 ? I would say this would be OK allthough its gonna be mighty intense if you ever try 10ks. Also you are going to use a load of electricity. I think I would go with 250s.

How much more electricity does MH's use over vho's? Also what is the best type of ballast electronic, magnetic, etc.

If you are already worried about how much more...then IMO...no...its not wise.
go electric ballast...
I am not worried just curious.

I probably wouldn't.. Thats going to be ALOT of heat and use a ton of power. It probably would work fine for a SPS tank.. But most softies probably wouldn't be very happy.

As far as what ballast read through the thread in the top of this forum.. Metal Halide-Bulb and Ballast FAQ Info Here!
