What is the difference between the live rock and the 2.1 live rock? I have read multiple pages of this thread and checked out TBS and walt's site but didnt see any specifically on it. Or at least i didnt think i did.
Delivery day is tomorrow. Can't wait!

I just checked out your chart and it recommends 80 pounds of Pukani rock for a 40 gallon tank, is that correct?
I would recommend getting much of your rock from Bulk Reef Supply or Marco Rocks. It's cheap, it's high quality, and it's porous (which means the weight will go way down on shipping and porous is better anyways). Then buy the biggest Package you can comfortably afford from Richard and use it to "seed" your dry rock from Marco or Bulk Reef Supply.Awesome product. Hope i can get my hands on some soon
liverock,
not sure if this is the best way to contact you but i have been reading one of you most recent threads and it all looks outstanding.
I am doing my first ever saltwater tank. it will be a 180gall 72x24x24 in tank with a separate refug and sump.
I like the idea of the package but the price tag is,well, lets say i had to pause a moment. Ha. I completely understand it though. this really is a premium and environmentally safe product. It is safe to say it is out of my budget though with all the other start up purchases.
I was just wondering if you had any recommendations for someone in my position who was interested in you product. just purchase the rock itself? Or should i just go with some cured rock i can find locally and "fluff" the tank with yours?
any Tips or recommendations would be great Thanks and congrats on such an outstanding product.
Corey
@liverock I don't see where pricing guide shows the price of dry reef rock 2.1 (not live). I see pukani as the only option for dry rock.
The basic live rock is regular old reef rock like you're used to seeing, but maricultured off of Tampa Bay. It is the rock you see in this thread and it looks amazing. What is the difference between the live rock and the 2.1 live rock? Cured rock from your LFS is going to be more expensive than Richard's live rock, and is usually low quality.
Correct...I put all the dry 2.1 in the gulf...all underwater!
Will you sell me 100lbs of dry 2.1? And if so at what $/lb

I totally forgot Richard sold dry rock too - I'd look into the Pukani he's got, as it's good rock.OK great. I didnt even know that BRS had rock. I was already looking to place an order with them for a ro/di system. Looks like they have a handful of different styles. i have never aquascaped. Any suggestions? and do these need to be cured?
i think seeding the BRS rock may be the way i will go.

As for aquascaping, I'd suggest going to a few different reef forums and look at aquascaping threads. There are a lot of styles out there, from rock walls to minimalist, islands and pillars. Its easy to just pile rock in there, so think about negative space (open space, or swimming space) as your eye will be drawn equally to the places that there aren't rock. I'd plan out what you can with the dry rock first, try to make a structure with both differing height and depth, and add some kind of "flow" in the shapes. You can always take a hammer and chisel to the dry rock to get shapes you need.
