Is this the exciting future of Live Rock? Must See!!!

Richard, is all rock ordered from you now the Walt Smith rock, or are you offering your original rock as well as the Walt Smith? If you are offering both, how do we differentiate which one we want when ordering?

You can communicate with Richard via email for any custom requests and help with ordering.
I'm pretty sure he still has some of the original rock available.
He was supposed to head out on vacation for the holiday, so you may not be able to get in touch with him for another week or so.

No problem, was just wondering. I'd actually want to get the 2.1

I'll probably be looking for just 25-50 pounds to seed the dry rock I already have in place as a base.

Fake rocks not interested.

Technically speaking, cement is rock, so it is real rock. But why does it matter if it is real rock or not? Now I'm not telling you to put a painted wooden block into your tank or anything. What really matters is the surface area and spaces for stuff to grow. A rock is a rock.

I think this is a great idea. Maybe he could set something up with BRS or Marine Depot for distribution and ordering... I definitely want to see what I can do with this stuff.

Thanks for sharing. I have always stayed away from man made rock because of phosphate issues that came from when it first started being used in the hobby. After seeing this and doing some more research I will be looking into this option on any future tanks.

LOL What was the point of posting this? If you're not interested, why bother telling people you're not interested? Simply in the hopes of starting an argument so you can get some attention for a day or two?
A) Troll
B) Don't feed the trolls
C) Someone needs 50 posts since their 90 days is getting close. Sadly, posts like that won't count

Correct, he is out. I was exchanging emails sorting out a few remaining details on a order for my 240. I'm always envious of his warmer water scuba diving conditions than those of mine in Northern California - lol.

Shoot him a PM and he will respond once he gets back.

I'm about to set up an IM 20 as my first ever saltwater tank. I've been creeping on these forums for a long time and one of the first things I do is check the TBS sponsor forum for new pictures all the time. I love this rock and it will probably be as exciting to me as anything else I put in this tank.

Thanks everyone for sharing your pictures! I hope my tank looks half as good.

As a side note, I am really interested in the reef friendly critters you can get, especially the porcelain and decorator crabs. Should I be concerned about pistols messing with the good crabs or anything like that?

This rock works well in my tank. And I for one am glad I can use a man made product that almost trumps the real thing. Saves a true live rock from being harvested off a natural reef somewhere

Okay, I'm a FNG here on this site (technically I've been lurking for years, but finally registered.) After 26 pages of mostly awesomeness and the occasional troll, did I miss something, or is Richard still doing this? I am getting back into the hobby after a 2 year dry spell (my last tank warped my floor, and I got rid of it all) and I'm going to be staying small with a 37g tall tank. Because of where I work, his website is blocked on my network (working on changing that) but I was originally planning a dry-rock aquascape, then filling and cycling, but by the looks of this rock, that would be plain silly! This stuff looks great (from the pics that aren't hosted on Photobucket- once again, blocked at work) and I have no doubts it's the way I should be going. Should I just contact Richard directly from his website via email when I get home to discuss what I want? Also, I'm thinking that I may as well just go ahead and fill my tank with water (at least 75% of the way) and get it up to temperature. Does adding this live rock essentially skip the ridiculously long cycle process I am used to?

Does anyone that gets rock from the ocean have any concerns for parasites? That would be a big worry for me. Do you guys go fishless for a few months before stocking? Are crabs and shrimp an issue?

I have had no issue I added more rock to my existing system, love tampa bay saltwater rock, covered in sponges and life!

See that link above.
Fish and coral in the tank within days.
No parasites. Maybe a couple nuisance crabs or whatever but not a big deal.

Interesting, I would think that ich, Brook, or velvet would be somewhat of an issue.
