My wife sent me this link. Some of you camera experts let me know what you think. We are planning a trip to Hi and were wondering if this camera was worth it or is their a better on for not a lot more. It would be a cool way to get some different tank shots.underwater digital camera $40 Looks better then the disposable cameras. I know the resolution is not real high and it will not take very many pics without downloading them. Just wondering what reasonable alternatives their are.

I used the disposables before and was disapointed. My brother ruined the 35mm underwater camera the last time he used it so we need a new one and for $40.00 it is affordable.

Greg the problem is I know 0.3 megapixel is not real high and the images are not real big. Is it better then the disposable cameras? I was not happy with the pic quality of the disposable cameras I used. Is there a appreciably better one of a little more money? Say less then $150.

Laverda,

I know this is a little more then you wanted to spend,
but there is an pentax W10 going for $ 249.00
This camera is 6 mp and waterproof down to 5 feet.

what are u gonna take a shot of at 4 feet?

do a search on google. There are companies that make clear waterproof camera bags that are designed to work with your existing camera. Just drop the camera in, seal it up, and go diving.

ive never heard anything negative about them. Sure beats spending $300 on a waterproof camera housing

0.3 MP is absolutely awful. Disposable film cameras may have cheap lenses, but the resolution is still film quality.

For $40, I would get a small used 2-3MP camera and a ziplock bag. Or spend another $40-50 for a plastic bag-style housing.

i used disposable under water when i dived off belize and they were great only 10 ft down but pics came out great

The Pentax W10 is a great camera for taking on vacation to hawaii. You don't have to worry about getting it wet at the beach, swimming pool, boating, kayak or snorkeling. It has most of the features as all the other digital cameras but is waterproof.
I used to use my camera with a waterproof housing, but it was very bulky. Since this camera fits in my pocket, I will take it everywhere I go , even the pool or ocean.

I got a waterproof 35mm camera for $20 on Kauai. You can get a CD with digital pictures at CVS when you get back.

0.3 mega pix's would be the worst investment of your life... 7 years ago when the first cell phone came out with a camera (1 year later to America) it was 0.7 megs (phone by Sanyo- provider: Sprint) i payed a hefty $730.00 to be one of the first 1,000 people on earth with a ALL COLOR CAMERA PHONE just for the bragging rights that i wish now i never had... the idea of the camera was cool... full color...phone and camera ON THE GO... but the camera was pretty much worthless... when i would take a picture of my cat, it would mostly look like my neighbor. made my younger sister look simular to my grandmother. even back then i was not happy with 0.7 megs DIRECTLY FROM JAPAN... i bet 0.3 megs couldn't tell you the diference between a bright yellow cup and a red and blue spotted fire salamander .... this is all IME... but if your serious about finding a good UW CAMERA "For Cheap"... you should ask the ppl on a good Diving Forum.... im sure they might have a few tricks up there wet suits, if they cant point you in the direction of a better digi cam. good luck and have plenty of fun in the Hi...Oahu is my home town :p IMO these pictures you will be taking are pretty much housing a memory... dont go too cheap on a memory cause you never know... all in all, you might not ever go back

Thanks everyone for your advice. I didn't figure it was a vary good camera. I found a good deal on a Olympus D-560 and an underwater housing. I am not real happy with my Finepix S602 so it didn't make sense to buy a housing for it. A housing would have cost more then I got theD-560 camera and housing for.

laverda there is a Scuba Road Show at my Costco Store and they have some for $28.99 dont remember the brand but if you want I can check, and the good thing about it is if you dont like it you can return it to any Costco in the USA.
