That appears to be a small asterina starfish. Most people consider them reef safe, but they quickly multiple and can be all over the glass and rock.

I've had a handful of them in my tank for a long time now and I haven't seen any issues with my corals. I've often heard they can multiply quickly and become a bit of a problem, but for me, having a few on the front glass isn't a problem.

I've had them in my systems for decades now. Their populations will rise and fall along with their food supply. If I seem to be getting an abundance of them in one system, I'll transfer some to another tank to even them out.

I have yet to have one that has bothered any corals.

I keep them and enjoy them, however I have noticed since I have had them my coraline algae seems to have disappeared....

if you have a ton of them i will assume your tank has a lot of detritus . is that correct

They eat Coraline algae . Some have said they will also eat Zoas but i personally think they are just after the algae in the colony and causing them to become stressed ......

I have them in my tank and will at times reduce there numbers..

so them eating the Coraline is that a bad thing or a good thing. Coraline is good, so them eating it is bad. isn't it. but on the other hand whats wrong with a little grazing to keep it fresh
