Is using a rubber band on soft corals safe?

I feel like it will hurt the coral but I made it as loose as possible. It still feels very tight. It is not freshly cut, any tips on what to do? Should I just watch it and see if the rubberband is too much or is sticking a toothpick through the base better for the coral? Thanks.

I've had no problems using rubber bands on leathers..
Just make it tight enough to hold them there and nothing else..

Now I just bust out the super glue and glue them down..

I like using a needle and thread for leathers, the first time I tried a rubber band It almost cut itself in half when it inflated the next day. I just could not get it right.

The thread is either tied or superglued down and can be pulled out later.
