is velvet only present on fish?

i purchased a clownfish about 4-5 months ago, but it quickly came down with velvet and didnt live too long. I wish i read about treatments before hand, but now i know better.

my question is, is velvet present in the water column, rocks etc? I purchased a pair of healthy clownfish, but im not sure if there going to get velvet again because of my previous experience.

Are you sure it was velvet and not Brooklynella? Regardless, you should have left your tank fallow for around 3 months if you were dealing velvet..it is very difficult to eradicate from your system..so if your tank was not fallow long enough, your new Clowns can become infected

Velvet (Amyloodinium) requires a fish host, but Brooklynella apparently does not.
