First off let me say I have zero experience w/ chillers :) Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

Is the unit getting too much flow? Are they not designed to take back pressure????

Could there be trapped air in the lines in the unit?

Chad

Thanks Marshall. I went down and took some quick pix for you in case you were thinking of something I wasnt. :) As you can see the other side of this wall is where the chiller sits.

In that picture it looks like you used spaflex for one of those lines then painted it grey with a computer program. :D

Chad, when they talk about back pressure they mean air ventilation. Good analogy.. a car's exhaust needs to flow freely out. When you have something close restricting it, you get back pressure. The flow of the water doesnt intersect with the air flow. It's like a car radiator. Im not sure whats wrong, but what Steve described, it could be the compressor interface mount which sounds easy to fix.

zoos, I knew someone was going to say something. You are right.. its white and I couldnt show that. ;) I still have yet to replumb the CL pump because the white ones were temporary. I already have all the parts, but havent put myself up to this wet task. :)

Hey Ed I never had a problem like that for the vent. Can you place it uso that the front is facing the dryer so that you lose a set of 90 degree elbows ?

That would be ill advised. You need clearance of at least 1 foot (2 feet preferred my manufacturer) for air flow of the chiller. This is most important to have the space behind the chiller for air exhaust. From the picture, the current orientation of the chiller is about as good as you could do given the space.

Again the back pressure he was speaking of is airflow, not water pressure inside the chiller system.

Just talked to PCI and these guys do have great service. They are very detailed and once i get home they are going to walk my through some things to see if its an easy fix. They feel its the fan out of synch and not compressor related.

Well I got home and removed the casing as instructed by PCI. I turned the blade and sure enough it was hitting where the arrow points below. I bent it out of place (very easy) and now it spins freely. Plugged everything back up and VOILA, no more noise. Glad it was an easy fix. I wasnt up for shipping this thing back. Thats such a hassle. I also put some pics with the shell off so you guys with PCI Chillers can see how its designed. Save it for reference in case you to do maintenance one day on yours. I feel so much better now.

Its a drag for me to be so busy, I miss amazing build logs like this!

I'm anxious to see what you are able to do with this system!

The 450 is doing fine, just clicking along. Just got finished tinkering for an hour or so. Nothing like having a new project though. Much of the fun is in the set-up, as you know.

I have a 350 corner pentagon sitting crated in my garage along with everything to set it up (sump, plumbing, pumps, tunzes, BK skimmer, lighting, etc.). I am just waiting on my furniture which should be hereend of April, May at the latest.

Great to see your new project.

Thanks Mike.

No progress. Still waiting on shipping. It should be any day now that I get the word they are in the states. Just being patient. :)

Yes. It was a special request that had to go to the owner of the company. I had to pull teeth to get this. It's actually not that tough waiting since I know it will be worth it in the end. I was more anxious getting my tank because at least with that I can start maturing my tank while I get everything else in.
