Question about placement of drilled hole in relation to your stand:

What size tubing did you use for your stand? Did you need to tell AGE where to drill your hole, so you would have enough room to clear the bulkhead nut? Or did AGE figure that out for you?

Thanks
I can take this one, as AGE is currently building my tank. Regarding the stand, Tom at AGE knows how thick the tubing needs to be based on the tank dimensions - I didn't have to tell/ask him. I selected where the holes would go for the drain/returns on the PVC bottom, and when there was a conflict with the stand, he just asked me if I could move the hole an inch this way or that - problem solved. He knew what kind of bulkheads I would be using, so he was able to plan it out perfectly. Great company to work with!

Is your response directed towards me or Invincible? If to me, I don't think you're coming off negative at all. In fact, I don't see how your response is negative to begin with. I welcome any comments, good or bad, as this forum is a great place to learn and share knowledge.

What are your thoughts on the AGE tanks? And what did you mean by saying, "if that's what you want, then great"

Perfect, that's the kind of service & knowledge I'd expect from a custom tank builder. I've been corresponding with him via email, and he's great in promptly returning emails.

I asked him how many warranty claims he's had (in regards to leaking, seam issues, structural issues), and he said NONE!

Regarding your bulkheads, when you said he knows what kind you're using, have you pre-selected the bulkheads already? Or does Tom supply (or sell) bulkheads with his tanks?

Is there even a quality difference in the brand of bulkhead I use?? I'm a newbie when it comes to plumbing :p

Yes, I pre-selected the bulkheads I would use (Hayward). There is a quality difference, and considering the number of holes going into the bottom of my tank (9 in total) I wanted bulkheads that were leak-proof.

Yes tbone it was for you. These tanks are really nice. Planing and patience is the key. You really don''t want to kill any fish, or waste money. We all just want the best display from our systems. This place is a wealth of knowledge. Take your time and do it right. As we can see from most of tanks here planning and research pays off.. i am curious what quotes are you getting for the tank? I have a tank for my predator type fish and would love to use a rimless for them. Just spread too thin. They will have to make due until I get my big one up. When I saw invincible tank I was sold.

Eric,

I agree. My last tank was a 240g. It was my 1st reef, and I "thought" I had done my research. My mistake was letting my LFS set up the entire tank, picking equipment, etc.

I've since sold that tank, and planning a 180g. I've learned a lot from you guys.

I'm not doing a rimless tank as Invincible and Naka are doing. They are beautiful tanks, but my tank will be somewhat "built-in", so the rimless effect would be hidden.

Because of that, I went with the 3/4" acrylic Eurobrace that Tom offers.

As far as price, I priced out AO, Miracles, and AGE. They were all very similarly priced (after shipping). I'd say within $200 of each other, so it really came down to preference.

I couldn't find much on AGE on the forum, as AO seems to dominate, but I chose AGE based on the 1" PVC bottom, Tom's customer service, and the fact that he has not had a claim yet in regards to leaking or structural issues. HTH

Sorry for the newbie question, but what's the difference between a Hayward BH and regular? Are they really leakproof?

Can you link me a good source to buy?

I plan on buying the CJ standpipes. Are they compatible with the Haywards?

I don''t have a lot of experience with tanks, but I did have a ball valve leak on my water softener I put on my house. It was a couple bucks from Home Depot. I came home and my back yard was a little flooded. I guess that would suck in a house. Everyone here lives by them.

I am going to be purchasing a glass tank and wish it had a PVC bottom. Then I could drill or do whatever I want. Oh well just need to plan it all out first..

tbone, if I remember correctly its 17" long.

Thanks! I'm ordering a 6x2x2 from AGE. LOVE your tank! What size bulkheads are you using inside your overflow?

I have 2 1" and 2 1.5". Got them from AE. :) Thanks for the compliment. I really love it too. Make sure you have enough room for your hand (width).

I've decided on buying my 180g (6x2x2) from AGE! I just love your's and Naka's tanks! Very beautiful. Mine will be behind cabinetry, so I went with the Eurobrace.

I used 2" tubing for the steel stand. Yes, I did tell them where I needed those holes. Just make sure you have enough clearance from the stand steel and the overflow holes. Make sure you consult with them first and they will draw out a professional sketch for you before starting on the tank. You will then have to sign off on the sketch for approval.

Your exactly right. Out of all the years he has been doing this, he has yet to have one fail on him. Like I said in the past, he is known as the whiz when it comes to building these tanks. You should see the new rimless bowfront he built that is at AE right now. Looks like it came out of a factory.

Perfect! Tom will take care of any clearance issues. I'm also building my steel stand out of 2" square tubing. In your previous, post to me, you said to "make sure you have enough room for your hand (width)". Do you mean inside the overflow?

I love the look of your setup...It is SO clean.

If my setup were not "built-in", I'd do it just like yours! In one of your previous posts, you mentioned that you were not running the middle halide. Have you (or will you) run it anytime?

I just love how open your tank is. I'm going to make sure my tank's not "full of rock"!
