t5nitro, I have a barracuda dart powering 3 holes.. one in and 2 outs. Then I have a Oceanrunner 6500 powering one in and one out which is also tied to the chiller. Then I have two return's using the loclines.

Chris, I have 3 bulbs in the fixture. If you look at the previous page, all the lights are on. You cant really tell much of a difference except its a bit brighter. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with the same bulbs. It helps! I am thinking of buying a 14K for the middle one since it will be off most of the time. Thats how i had it with my last tank and it looked great. Funny, how we keep going back to our roots and what worked best for us. :)

mcliffy, thats a great idea. That would help me like you wouldnt believe. I can have it as removable for when i get company. What did you have in mind? like a foot of walkway around? or more?

thirsch, I wil check out your thread. Thanks for writing!

I think a secondary structure would detract from the sleek, spare look of the overall system. A stool or bench nearby could be brought to a convenient location during use and then taken away with little fuss.

I'm a big midcentury fan (and would probably go with an Eames or Nelson piece - a 24" Nelson bench would be pretty sweet) but from what I remember of your interior, you're a little more contemporary. Starck has the Prince Aha stool which is neat, has storage inside and is very cheap. The Primary Pouf is also pretty cool, made of polyethylene(?), comes in a bunch of colors and isn't too pricey.

Design/style nazi checking in :D

Yea, just like a foot high, foot deep, all the way around, maybe in sections, so you could remove just what you need for access...would allow you to really get into the tank, and look awesome, almost like the tank is on a pedastal. Not sure how it works with the rest of the surrounding, but you could work some really cool ideas with it...make it wood matching the stand, then on top of the step you could even work in granite or marble tiles (I believe HD sells some nice 1'x1' tiles so that wouldn't be too hard to work in, would also make cleaning water off them easier and protect the wood around it). Its totally a matter of personal taste, but I think if you made it a simple square shape, it maintain a pretty minimalist look.

I thought the Giesemann T5's were under powered, but now i realize that the reason for this was because I had only 2 Actinics with the 2 14K whites (the white T5's blended with the 13K Marines). Today I received 2 ATI Blue Plus T5 tubes. I replaced the Giesemann 14K tubes and left the 2 Giesemann Actinic plus in the fixture. In other words I have:

2 - Giesemann Actinic Plus
2 - ATI Blue Plus

I really love this look and my corals are glowing like they did when I had my 20k spotlight. I still have the 1 middle MH off because when I turn it on, it really brightens the tank and I feel its just too much. I dont need it on for right now anyhow.

I also lowered the light and its 9" from the water surface.

Pics to show the difference:

Great pix Edward, thanks for sharing. I'm still amazed at how high your water level is but obviously it works! Looks really cool that high.

Love the fixture.

Thanks Everyone!!

David, Im amazed too. I went over to naka's place and saw that his wasnt this high either. It actually got higher after I activated the 2nd return locline. I only had one at first to get it running and had the return Iwaki pump turned down. Now, its on full blast with 2 return locline pipes. The only issue I ran into was if I turned up more flow on the Dart Barracuda Closed loop which shoots up, it would create water turbulence and would have the water moving closer to the rim.

Edward,
The tank looks awesome! Could you please post some close up shots detailing what all you have in the tank now that you have the new lights? Also a livestock list?

Nick

you have created something really special here. i would like to say this tank is inspiration.

what are your plans for corals in the near future?

I could stare at that tank for hours!I can't point at a single thing that looks out of place or disproportionate. And the water line is so level! It's all in the details.Very nice!

Edward, what kind of sand are you using? I tried to look back in the pages but could not find it. Sorry about that.

Nick, I just have a bunch of SPS frags from CAReefer, different zoas from naka and fishcraze, softies in the nepthyea family, green toadstool, red brain and thats about it. For fish, I have the Flagfin Angel, Bellus Angel, blenny, 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 cardinal fish, 3-5 different types of snails, and thats about it for now.

Here's a pic of the Bellus Angel:

GSM, to get my hands on some nice softies. Its about the colors, the movement, the new challenges and not the limited editions. I want the tank to come alive by adding as much fish and as much moving action corals.

fishcat, thanks for the comment!

i2ik, im using Caribsea Live Carribean .5-1.5. It had a special name to it. Forgot what it was.

Any reaon you went with live sand? :P Love your bellus angel, she is looking beautiful! Missing mine :(

It gives it a natural look. It's like going to the beach and there's no sand with BB. :) Thanks I've always wanted a Bellus from many yrs ago when I first laid eyes on one. Finally found one. :)

Oh meant why LIVE sand and no dry sand :) I had a bellus angel before and i will for sure put that fish in my fish list once my tank is done!

love the Bellus I had one along with a male and female watanabei in my last tank they were beautiful fish

Richard, buying live sand is like buying live rock. It's fresh from the ocean. Expediting the cycle of the tank and allowing more biodiversity by introducing live sand. Of course, there are pros and cons. :)

Brian, thanks again. The Watanebei's are also very nice fish. Do they come in often now? Was there a problem with the bellus and the watanebei's together?
