Ed, is it the live sand in those sandbag in the LFS? I looked at them but could not see any live stuff. How is living stuff get to survive in those bags?

On my experience with my bellus and my watanebei female angel which was smaller, the bellus would chase the smaller one everytime the watanebei was no far of her but never got any other problem on my side. The chasing was short and she never hurt the watanebei. :)

Everything looks incredible. Can we get more pics of all your equipment below? I love the open areas and the fish are beautifull. Earlier today I was just looking at video on a rimless tank. Wooowww

Eric

I'm sure you're probably getting tired of hearing this........THAT IS ONE COOL TANK!!! I'm salivating over here.....seriously.

Sorry couldn't stop by today Edward. I'll try to make it next week. You tank looks super clean. I love the open aquascape. Makes my tank look too crowded.

Richard, here's a great article that will answer your questions on the live sand topic:

Bacteria can live in sealed containers. Take for example the zeovit bacteria in a bottle.

Eric, thats my next project after finishing the display tank. I was planning to redesign the entire equipment area. Right now, everything is just placed where there was room. Once Im done with that, i can show you.

nanoguy, I never get tired of it. I need some reassurance. Im about to respond to your PM.

James, no problem. Any weekend is fine. Just let me know a day in advance. Dont forget.. when it gets too crowded, remember your reefing friends. ;) jk

Jarvis, thank you!

Richard, buying live sand is like buying live rock. It's fresh from the ocean. Expediting the cycle of the tank and allowing more biodiversity by introducing live sand. Of course, there are pros and cons. :)

how about Aragalive Reef Sand - Fiji Pink, is this the same brand you use or CaribSea Aragonite Substrate

I got a better pic of the Bellus after playing around with the camera settings. :)

Also, I increased flow at the water line to create surface tension like it does in the real world in order to improve oxygenated levels.

Man it’s been a while since I've posted, I just couldn’t resist. Everything looks fantastic.
As Fliger said “love the light.”

Hey Ed quick question on your rockwork........ I am noticing alot more people are doing there rock work like yours and also in pillars ect...ect...ect......... Now what is your concern for your fish's hiding places ? I see more and more of this people putting in alot of fish and not havin the proper hiding space for them.

You've done an outstanding job on this! Absolutely stunning. Everything is gorgeous, the lighting, the rockstructure, the tank itself and that Bellus is a jewel!

Cant wait to see this tank in a year or so when everything has started to grow out abit!

There are plenty of places in his rock structure for fish to hide. Just because it's not the wall o rock doesn't mean there aren't hiding places. I've got about 50# of Marshall in a 60g (36x24x18H) tank and there are tons of places for my fish to hide. It's not about how much volume you fill but how you use the space and the shapes of the rock to optimize boltholes and caves.

Yes I know that but when your making say a tank of pillars wheres the hiding places. I personally see it alot now with alot of people in my club where after they re aquascape, they say how some of there fish are getting very aggressive all of a sudden and dont understand why

It just depends on how you construct your pillars and what kind of rock they are made of. If you just stack solid Fiji pieces with no caves on an acrylic rod and that's the only aquascaping in your tank then yes, you are going to have problems. Edward's tank isn't constructed like that - I'd imagine that there are tons of hiding places in the rocks that stack up to the overflow. Besides, who wants a tank of only pillars? A pillar as a focal that anchors one side of the aquarium is nice, sure, but all pillars? Boring! :)

Jeremy, thanks a bunch! With all that Giesemann talk in the past, its finally here. Sounds like other people are trying to get this light now too. I want to see the other color versions.

tanya, there are definitely places for the fish to hide. The pics may not show it, but there are a couple of spots. Usually when I introduce a new fish, they run to the back of the rockwork by the overflow. You may not see it, but there is 3-4" of open space back there. Its not all bunched in where they cant hide to the back. The reason for this aquascape was for the social fishes that love to swim around. Especially those with high metabolism. Also, from seeing other reefers around the world, especially the chinese.. they have tons of these fishes with little rockwork and prized fish.

cantonesefish, almost every month.. on the net. :)

addo, thank you. I am cant wait either. Now that I have my light, its time to seriously start looking for some livestock. I couldnt before because I wasnt sure where the light would penetrate the strongest.

reefermonkey, thanks for answering. You are right.. I do have those places. When the fish sleep, they dont sleep in the open.

I've decided on buying my 180g (6x2x2) from AGE! I just love your's and Naka's tanks! Very beautiful. Mine will be behind cabinetry, so I went with the Eurobrace.

Question about your overflow:

What size bulkheads are you using for your overflows and returns?

I'm thinking of 2x1.5" bulkheads for overflow and 2x0.75" for returns - all 4 holes drilled inside the overflow, as you have done.

Question about placement of drilled hole in relation to your stand:

What size tubing did you use for your stand? Did you need to tell AGE where to drill your hole, so you would have enough room to clear the bulkhead nut? Or did AGE figure that out for you?

Thanks
