Somehow taking sand paper to an acrylic tank , just doesn't seem right . They tell me that is the way to start , when removing scratches from acrylic. I hope it starts to look better soon , or I blew the hole thing . It's too late to turn back now , so I guess I'll just have to keep going . I will keep everyone posted on how it turns out . Ted

Hopefully you started with the finer sandpaper first. It just takes a lot of time and work. Just take your time.

I made all those tanks last year out of 1/4" lucite acrylic. They got scratched up pretty bad, but are empty right now. How do you get the scratches out? Please let us know if fine sandpaper works and I'll get to it! Thanks and G/L!!

the best way i have found is to start with 2000 grit for scratches that arent that bad , if there deep then you might have to go with like 1500 or 1200 but always finish off with the 2000 and keep the sand paper wet at all times , then i use my high speed buffer on the lowest speed and a non abrasive wax to pull the rest of the scratches out, basically like taking scratches out of a car

jenate20 , Thank you . I AM using the 2000 grit , and the scratches are starting to fade , but it takes a lot of sanding . I don't have a high speed buffer , so I will have to hand polish the tank . I am not able to do much at a time , so it's going to take me quite a while to do it , but I will get it done . Ted

The scratches are fading more , and more , But I still have a long way to go . I wish I had a digital camera I could post some pics . Ted
