Well, I've been doing 30g water changes every week for a couple of months now, scrubbed off all the rock, adjusted my water flow, and it looks like maybe my tank is beginning to be happy. My 3 heads of calaustria are starting to really puff up like the entire colony used to... Ive found a couple of zoos that I haven't seen in well over a year, I have a frag of blue ridge that I just left on the starboard bottom and let it encrust. This coral is really starting to grow! About a week ago I accidentally broke off a small branch and it got blown away before I could pick it up, I just found it encrusted to both the starboard bottom and to a major piece of live rock. I have a second blueridge frag that I bought mounted (back at the original Denny's)and it has never grown. I just noticed that it had several lobes that are now all grown together and it has encrusted down the sides of its plug and is about to start growing on the starboard. I have even kept an SPS frag alive for 4 (?) months now. For the longest time my record was 2 months (to the day) and then the tissue would slough off (repeatedly 2 months to the day...odd!)
So today I'm sitting there looking at my tank and thinking about scrounging around for some montipora or some other quick growing easy to keep frags and starting a lawn on the left side of the tank to compete with my blueridge (hint hint hint) when I notice the time. ..hmm thats odd my right side MH bulb should be on... bulb is black and red (really bright red, odd?) and all burned out. Crap! Just when things are starting to live!!! I have ROIII 250w DE Hamilton 14k bulbs. They are ok, but I've never been that impressed. What I would love to see is the colors that Pierce had in his 150. I remember that he ran AB10ks(without actinics) and for some bizaar reason his tank didn't look yellow. Is there any DE bulb out there that would come close?
