Its picture time part deux :)

Slower shutter will change the amount of light let in which will lighten or darken the photo. Your aperture will change the depth of field. The lower the number the lower the depth of field the higher the more. But the lower the aperture the brighter the exposure will be. Just mess with it some you will get it!!!!

You are correct. But to shoot at those higher aperture numbers shutter speed will be slower to let in more light.
If you select shutter priority and choose a slower shutter speed the camera will automatically change the aperture to control the amount of light. I usually end up closing the aperture 1-2 stops beyond where the camera thinks it should be when shooting coral under bright light as it tends to not wash out as much of the color that way. Just my experience.

Yeah def!!! Like you said sometimes you have to tweak it to your liking. I feel like in some situations a little bit of a brighter exposure will look better than 0 d out. Tripod is def a must. I personally have zero experience shooting thru glass. Have you ever tried using some form of filter to reduce tank glare???

Only a rubber lens hood lol. I have a polarizing filter but it doesn't seem to help much. Best way i have found is to have the lens right on the glass if you are getting glare, or darken the room. That is why i have so much trouble getting a fts with the lights on cause I have too many windows in my living room.

Snookster have you used these? I have used the tiffen screw on lenses but haven't tried these was wondering if they are any good?[/QUOTE]

I just started with them on my canon.

Nice pics, now I am gonna have to order a set of those to try with my 70-300 zoom.

Pedro, that is the same lens I use for coral pics too. Your pics are looking better.

Grats on the new camera Roger I am sure you will enjoy it.

Nice. I bought my new nikon DSLR last night. Now I'm macro lens shopping.

Sweet!! What did you get? There's quite a few on craigslist and ebay if you just want to try them out and get a feel prior to getting a brand new one, that's what I did. Careful on getting one used though, make sure it works with your camera. The one I bought needs a built in motor for the autofocus to work and my camera doesn't have it so I can only use it in manual mode which I'm ok with anyway.

Thanks Installman :)

I have the same issue with that lensPedro. It autofocuses fine on my daughter's d80 but she uses it on manual for macro shots anyway.
