Jackson's 115 Gallon Custom Cube 32x32x26

Looking good Richard! Im interested to see how the color develops further when you add the extra T5s:)

Thanks Fishy. I have some decent shops by me. There is one in particular that is my favorite for SPS. They have a good system that not only maintains all the awesome wild acros, but they usually color them up even more. There are several other shops that get a variety of awesome SPS, but you better get to them before they go downhill is these systems.
Then we have a couple 'high end' stores. These are nice places to visit, but if you're a serious buyer you'll go broke shopping here. If you're ever in the area shoot me a PM. I'll give you a better idea where to visit.

Nice, next time you go 'shopping' take some pics for me please, I love seeing pics of other peoples LFS's. I plan on making a trip to the US sometime to see all my RC buddies. So when I do make it over there I'll give you a buzz and you can give me a personal tour of the shops:thumbsup: and to see your amazing tank in the flesh:beer:

This is my dreamtank! Lol

:lolspin:Thank you

I have to figure something else out because adding additional t5's onto the giesmann fixture was a hot mess. The extra over driven t5 solved any shadowing problem that I had, but the light spray into the room was terrible and it just looked horrible.I removed the addition for now. I have to figure out another option.

Will do!

Sigh. I love your photos.

Iphone 6 in a top down container works miracles :)

My favorite is probably Pets Warehouse in Copaige Long Island. I prefer to buy SPS kept under halides. I'm not into the whole LED craze. The results have me extremely unimpressed.

you might have to have a canopy built to match the stand to contain the lights and light spill!

You know the new craze is hybrids right? I wouldn't consider running a tank without T5s. My new light arrives in a couple of days. ATI retrofit - 4 T5s, 6 arrays of LEDs. The light will be mounted on a suntanning bed when not needed over the tank.

Yep. Just concerned about the weight though. I don't want it resting on a rimless tank so it would be a 'floating' canopy'. I may try that new. I can fit 6 t5 in their own reflectors, a full size diamond halide reflector, and 2 blue led strips.

Is that what you use for those crystal clear pictures? wow. And the avast viewer?

How do you not get a shadow since you're in between the light source and the coral?

A few of the fish pics were taken with an old nikon d40, but all of the top down pics are taken with an iPhone in an eshopps viewer. No shadow since the halide illuminates well ;) Sometime i'm not directly over the coral, but an inch or two to the side.

Oh I know, T5's fill the shadows that LEDs leave. The visual effect and controllability of LED is great for adjusting spectrums, but many of these hybrid type lights are primarily t5 lights. I am a huge t5 fan. They illuminate every inch of coral, that is something that halide or LED can't do. I would't run either without T5.

Fantastic tank and quite an SPS selection. How long is your photo period?
Also do you dose anything to color them up?

Thank you. Halide PP is currently 6 1/2 hrs, t5 is 10 hrs, led strips 12 hrs.
I don't really dose anything to color them up. The colors have more to do with the 400w radium and heavy fish feedings + nutrient level.

Rich sorry if you have mentioned it already but what's you no3 and po4 levels?

No problem :) Nitrate is 15ppm and po4 is .04 as of this morning. Levels usually hover around here. Tomorrow my new BK mini 200 comes:dance: Curious to see how it effects the the nutrient level.

I always like to hear about your high nitrates. I might have gotten mine down near 20 now and things are looking better. Somewhere in the Salifert reds I seemed to have hit a point where the acros had trouble tolerating the nitrates. No death, but very little growth except for my slimer, which had yellowish brown growth tips. I'm guessing I was around 40???

Obviously your tank seems to do just fine at 15. :)

thanks for the reply rich:beer:

15 huh?Stories like this makes me feel silly for trying/struggling/fighting /etc to keep them under 5 and close to 1-2:D
Same goes for phospaphates:o
And the state of your corals are the best argument for me to try(sometime in the future) this approach too.

i see mark has high no3 too.Mark the only downside with 40 no3 was the slow growtrh rate?Colors where good?

Colors were good on a few, but many were staying brown (millis) and not budging. I think it depends on the coral. I can count on one hand the number of acros I've been able to color up so my experience is crap compared to Rich and others. :)

Mark, when my skimmer broke I was unskimmed for a week or more and my no3 shot up to 50ppm. I also saw a reduction of growth and a lot of fuzzy brown polyps took over some corals.

I think it really depends on lighting. I've seen super bright tanks with no3 and p04 levels through the roof…… with great looking SPS!

Tank looks fantastic ! I love it, the colors are amazing. Maybe I missed it, but I was wondering what ballast you are using to drive your 400W Radium?

Thanks
Chris
