I have a spare but not by design. It turned out that my 4300 didn't really have enough power so I switched to a Hammerhead. The 4300 will do in a pinch if the Hameerhead goes South. Even having a spare pump body and impeller is a good idea. Stuff always seems to break on a 3-day weekend!!

Thanks guys. I'll study the camera a bit and see if I can get any better pics out of it. Doesn't seem to have very good macro capabilities and getting full tank shots is tough. Shutter speed isn't that good so getting pics of fish is hard too. Anyhow, will do for this year. This year I still have incredible bills which come from building a house in 2 months - but it was worth it. Hoping I can bill some corals on the CC this month as I should have some spare cash next month but I also have to go to the UK at some point. One of those expensive years.

Well, some disappoinment suffered here. My Regal Angel that had been doing great in QT for 5 weeks suddenly died.

Took me ages to find a young Red Sea Regal Angel and it wasn't cheap - but it's the time invested that annoys me the most. I've only lost one fish in the main display in 6 months which was one of the Lyretails the other day - suicide jumper. If a fish can make it through QT it's chances of thriving in the main tank are excellent and I was so close. Well, took 2 attempts on teh PBT so I guess I'm in for another attempt on the Regal. The only other fish I really want are a Blue Line Angel, Clown tang and some more anthias. And then I'll be happy.

Interesting point Dog. I have always had some fear of the QT process because of the tank being small and less stable (in theory) than the display but I guess the way you put it makes sense.

I hate the QT process but I'm still an avid supporter of that methodology. In 6 months since I've been putting fish in the main display - all are doing great (except the Anthias). No aggression, no disease and all growing fast. Usually when I've lost fish in QT I know why but this Regal I'm not sure.

I think I might have actually been fully responsible. That night I pour in 6 gallons of main tank water (as I'm raising salinity now). It was dark, fish were sleeping. Suddenly I noticed teh Regal had got caught in the waterfall and was being pinned to a rock. Basically either that killed it because it looked bad right after or it was already weak which caused it to be pulled in. I didn't see how it was doing immediately before so I can't be sure. And I'm not sure if the force of water being poured from a bucket above could do that kind of damage to healthy fish. If it was all my fault and the fish was drowsy from waking up and stumbled under the waterfall to get dashed on the rock then I can't tell you how angry I am with myself. So was it on the way out or not....bit of a mystery. And I was so looking forward to enjoying it in the main display as it's the only fish that I've been set on keeping since I started this hobby (and before).

Bummer...I hate when I do the after-the-fact analyzing and realize that I might have screwed up! Maybe it just got an internal injury...hard to know without an autopsy. Well, the NEXT one will do fine.

Nexdog, are you planning on incorporating multiple types of anthias ? I have heard and read that you should not keep different types of anthias together...

Maybe I missed it, but other than the one jumping, what sort of problems are you having with them?

I just ordered a school of 9 lyretails for my tank.

Yah, I meant the one Anthias that jumped. The rest are fine. I'm going to order some more Lyretails as four just doesn't cut it in my book.

swellsearcher - I've heard many success stories of keeping different Anthias species together. They aren't overly aggressive.

My PBT has a slightly cloudy eye and it's bothering him. He is trying to scratch it alot - mainly on the sand. I'm going to focus on improving water quality over the next few days with a large water change, clean the sump, siphon out and replace sand, change the carbon reactors. Is there anything else I should do?

Could be a fungus right? Can you QT him? I ma about to QT mine.
