JapanReef - 450 gallon In-Wall system

Sounds like an adventurous day! :D I just checked on my first Vortech and it is running fine. Made it through the night without spinning. On mine, the wet side gasket appears to be glued to the housing so I can't imagine it looking the way I have seen others with the gasket squirting out one side.

All pumps add some heat and the Sequences are far lower on the scale of heat/flow ratio than many others, primarily because they are external and fairly efficient. I just have one Hammerhead running my sump return so it isn't too bad.

So next I'll turn off the return pump for a few days and see if they dissipate. But these Vortechs are kicking up a storm. I already lost all the sand on the right side of the tank and the left Vortech is about 5" below the water line and the tank is 30" tall!

Wow! No storm here but I have 35" of height and not much substrate. Although I haven't turned them all up either. :D

NexDog: I've had best success with this QT procedure. If no signs of ich or velvet I QT with Prazipro for 5 days (for flukes and internal parasites) then I QT with Cupramine for 4 weeks. If I see velvet present during Prazipro treatment I stop that and change to Cupramine and then do the Prazipro last.

Can you give me some online links for Prazipro? I'd like to add it to my medicine cabinet. Formalin dips seem to be most excellent for short-term Ich relief. I've never combatted velvet though.

Anyhow, no thread page should be without full tank shots. :D

Thank you, thank you. :)

The clam is too big really. I don't think it can get any bigger.....

I'm trying to buy as big as possible. The corals are averaging at $80-$100. I can get larger for $150-$200 and maybe I will next year but until then this size is good. Some of the corals are growing well, some aren't growing at all but I figure the tank is new and growth will stabilise in time. My next batch will greens and pinks I think.

So strike two on the left Vortech. It fell down again. Soft gasket doesn't look too good. On the lest pic you can see I moved it towards the middle. It's too high really and anymore than half power generates a cool looking whirlpool. :D

Anyhow, I hope with flow from each meeting slightly in the middle will save the sand at either end. The Vortech is a nice idea and works well when they work. I think some are better than others for some reason. My right one is perfectly balanced and makes NO noise or vibration while the other one just won't align correctly and will rattle a bit no matter what I do. I think stronger magnets and a hard cover that can't be removed are needed on the impeller side. Both of these will improve alignment and balance and the damn thing won't keep falling off.

Hey Psyire, long time no see. :D

I lost your thread a while back on the dreaded unsubscribe all link. Going to go hassle you there now. :D

Hey Dog, I am having about the same luck with the Vortechs. I have one that runs perfectly, two that rattle a bit, and one that has a dead driver.

I haven't seen too many corals available online or locally that are as big as the ones you are getting. Locally we can pay $100 for 6" piece, but not nearly the overall size you are getting.

Wow! Nice updated shots:eek2:

I really need to try to catch up, but I don't think it's going to happen:)

Great work.
