wat is a good size sump for a 55g, and wat is better for filtering in the sump live rock or bio balls i hear alot of people usng LR instead of bio balls. im always looking for a bargain so again anyone thats has one that will fit my tank let me know. thanks for the help everyone. and does neone know if the brown stuff in my tank is cyno or diatoms. it has an upside down snotty apperance in some places in my tank.
I have always used liverock and filter media in my sump to help with filtration.If you can setup a small area with slow flow you could also grow copopods and amiphpods.The brown in your tank looks to diatoms.Best way to get rid of it is siphon off as much as you can while doing a water change.What kind of water are you useing to do water changes and top-off.
I'm using r/o water but it just won't go.away. I have some amphipods in my tank naturally. I an lost on the sludge. I've tried everything except letting it sit to see if goes away on its own.
my lights are for 9 hours from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. i think i may cutt them back an hour,but when the lights first turn on there is only a slight hint of brown. it slowly turns darker and darker throughout the day. maybe the length of light is too long. i used to run them ten hours and then this problem sprung up so i cut them back to nine hours. idk what the problem is. it seems to be slowly getting better i think. do you know what the ratio is on sump to tank
I try to get the biggest sump I can get to fit in the stand for my tank.The more water the better.When I had my 120,I used a 40 gallon,and on my 240 a 75 gallon.I could had a couple of power heads to make more flow to help fight diatoms.
i have 1 koralia hydor 250 gph, 1 maxi jett 600, 1 maxi jett 900, and a seio 450gph power head in there. i think it may be dying off. it just went off at 9 pm and the brown is still present but very very much lighter in color.
