Jawfish question

Hello all,

I just yesterday got a yellow headed jawfish from my LFS. I know it digs a burrow and hangs out in that burrow pretty much all the time. Well today it had dug a huge burrow under my biggest section of my aquascape structure. and I noticed my coral beauty angel started swimming in the burrow and hanging out in there quite often. Is this something I should worry about? Will he burrow and cause it to collapse? Im thinking about making sure the rocks are sitting right on the glass bottom and have the sand around the rocks instead of the rocks on the sand. But would that not allow him to burrow anywhere? I just am not real sure what to do. Any opinion is appreciated! Thanks!

They can cause your aquascape to collapse. I hate those guys. They can even spit sand on your bottom corals and kill them.

Try to lift the rocks that are close to the burrow and pull the sand out from under them if you can. put several small pieces of rubble around there and the jawfish will use them to help build the burrow stronger.

If you are going to have jawfish your rocks need to be on the glass and then fill in substrate around them

yes, try to either lower the rocks to the tank bottom, or use PVC to make supports so it can burrow under the rocks.

That's why I only add sand when the aquascape is done. All the rocks are on the bottom plate of the tank.
I have pistol shrimp and gobies in my tanks and also plan to add a pair of jawfish. They can dig as much as they like and none of the rocks will move a millimeter due to their efforts.
The only rocks I may place on the sand are single pieces that can't fall over.

+1 to aquascaping on the bottom & then adding sand. Some will add egg crate / pvc structure on the glass & then place the rocks on top & then fill with sand around it...

So how deep is your sand bed? and how big is the aquascape on top of the burrow?
