Jawfish tail

Wow, funny pic.

Wow, I never heard of a jawfish losing a tail-like a lizard.

They don't. No fish is known to do that. Loss of a tail, or any other fin, only occurs from physical damage. Be it from another critter or disease, but not simply as stress response.

All I am telling you is what a friend told me when I first met her and her tank with her Jawfish. If you have a day to read a bunch of post and would like to read her story and many others go to The Bluespot Jawfish Club on Reef Sanctuary. If I can't post another club on here please blank it out.

Well guys, when I was rearranging my rock, I saw something in the sand. Picked it up and I think it was one of my jawfish :( Last time I saw it was on Wednesday and this was picked clean, no skin, just some meat and small bones. I might make a trap to see if there is a hitchhiker because I am not sure what it could be.

Will these fish hurt eachother if not paired up?
A lot will depend on the size of the tank. If there is enough space, they can stay far enough away from each other to coexist. If not, they will fight, generally till one dies.

I will take a look when I at a proper computer. I expect something is being missed, as there no advantage to a fish loosing it's tail as stress response. Such a response would be a substantial disadvantage to survival of the species.
