JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

bought a used 28 jbj hqi which came with an aquac remora hang on skimmer. supposedly, the mj1200 sits in the compartment where the guy broke some of the baffles out, and goes into the skimmer. for the life of me, i cannot figure out how this is possible. anyone else use this skimmer on the 28hqi? is there something else i should do?

I tried answering in the thread you started, but I missed the fact that you said it wont fit. It will fit in the middle chamber for sure, and it should fit in one of the side chambers. You may have to remove the middle media basket to get it to work, though. I had one and hooked it up, before it even sat there for 30 seconds I decided it was way to noisy for my room. I sold it. Now I run the tunze 9002 with absolutely no noise and great dry or wet skimate.

it's not that it doesn't fit, it's that i cannot connect the pump to the skimmer.

there's about a 2" offset from the outlet of the mj1200 to the inlet of the skimmer. here's some pics.

here's the MJ in the baffle area

here's the skimmer on the back showing the inlet going down to the compartment and the hose sticking out

thanks

looks like the pump needs to be put into the middle chamber then....

if i put the pump in the middle chamber i see two issues.

1) the filtration won't fit, and i'm already worried about that.

2) the outlet of the skimmer would be bumped over to the side and that does not fit.

unless of course there's a way to snake the pump under the filter and into the bottom of that chamber?

Im sure its been mentioned but what is the best skimmer for these tanks? Im looking at the warner marine h1. Is there a better option? Less pricey and still good?

Maybe we should start a thread on this? Seems like once a week we get a post about it ... At the end of the day, totally depends on your setup and budget. I'm in the process of writing reviews on several of the skimmers I've used. I'll try to post here once I get new reviews up. Till then you can click the red house by my post and find them on my site.

While we're at this, who has a direct link to the Tunze 9002 magnet mod?

Get the H1 you won't be disappointed. I have one and love it.it was a little loud for a while but I really don't notice it much now.

Hey Chuck,

You bummed at all about going topless with that skimmer?! I ordered one, ran it one day - sent it back. Didn't want to make all the mods ...

Not at all, I actually like the open top better than closed. So much easier just to slide the NEP toward the rear, stick my arm in, do whatever needs doing, and slide it back. I knew I'd have to mod some of the plumbing for the Deltec, so that wasn't so bad. Plus, the HQI just got plain hot! I had 1/20 hp JBJ chiller and that thing ran all the time last summer. I bumped up to a 1/15 Current Prime, and it also ran quite often. So, the open top with the T5s are really doing good for me right now. I can't wait for Nanotuners to get the "full sized" 18" UVL bulbs in...I think I'll be in even better shape then!

I have this Skimmer also, with a MJ1200 in the middle compartment. You'll need to orient the pump so the outlet is right below the Skimmer inlet.

The filter basket won't fit, so you'll need to remove it to accommodate the pump. I just hang media bags loose in the sump
