JBNY's 270 Ver2.0

Joe, the video is really cool. It really shows just how dramatic the growth has been in your tank over the last 6 months. pretty crazy.

now, does this coral have a name?
I am seriously not going to rest until i have a piece of this in my tank...
it is absolutely the single most amazing piece of coral i have ever seen..
Not to mention how fantastic your photos are, as well!

I thought there was a picture of it a page or so back. I think he said it's the TCK pikachu

Coralite structure in the 3rd image is beautiful, what coral is that?

Reef keeping is life!

Thnaks, it is a wild coral, sold as Dragon Scale, I love the way it lookks, it's just not really growing. I am hoping stop being dormant and takes off at some point, as it is really cool!

Corals look awesome Joe!

Thanks Kevin!

looking great Joe!

Dosing any food for corals? Hows nutrients level?

mike

Thanks Mike. No food for the coral, light and fish poo only.

Nitrates are at 5ppm, PO4 is at 0.02. Still dosing KN03. No carbon dosing, bio pellets or GFO either.

Great pics Joe! Fantastic stuff!!!

Thanks Bill, I'm very happy with how the corals are looking right now.

Yeah the growth in the last 6 months has been great, especially since I couldn't get any growth for the 1 1/2 prior.

That coral is the Pikachu, I got it from Unique Corals, but they got it from the TCK pikachu.

Yes it is.

Great acros Joe, color really is taking off isn't it? Amazing update!

Thanks Josh, I agree the color is just really great. Even the corals in the frag rack at the very bottom of the tank have great color.

Thanks for the info, Joe.
The Pickachu and the Pink Floyd seem to look fairly similar...
I'll just have to find both!

Joe, are you still getting good growth from your cheato?
How's the cyano lately?

If we could get frags to you I would swap some and get you a piece of this guy.

I think the polyps are different on the Pink Floyd, but they could be the same coral for all I know.

Chaeto is growing like gang busters! No problems anymore.

Cyano was out of control, I dosed the tank with Red Slime Remover and it's all gone. I think some of my cyano problems might have been the really high levels of Molybdenum I have in my tank. I was trying to get rid of it, but with summer coming and people over all the time I just wanted it gone so I dosed RSR 3 weeks ago.

I have yet to really see a down side to using RSR..

Man, if coral frags could pass through the Canadian/US border, I'd be so seriously broke it would NOT be funny..
I would love to do some swapping!! :(

No kidding. This cross border thing is ridiculous.

Why dose nitrates with cheato? If you removed it wouldn't your nitrates rise on their own? I am wanting to add cheato to my sump but I am currenting having to dose no3 also. I thought it was used to absorb nutrients.

! :(

Matt doesn't RDS or any other chemical treatment to eliminated cyanobacteria, have a negative impact to beneficial bacteria populations?

John I know by personal experience that macroalgae and ATS absorb a lot of potassium . Have you noticed or triton laboratories, that they absorb any trace elements in a higher ratio than systems without "plants"?

It is used to absorb nutrients. If I removed the cheato from the system both nitrates and phosphates would rise. Even if I turn off my skimmer my Nitrates will start to rise, although at a slower rate. Using the cheato allows me to control both N and P much easier than GFO and carbon dosing, adding a little N03 is very easy and incredibly cheap.

I have never noticed any impact to anything other than cyano. I know that pope where very concern when these products came out 15+ years ago but at this point so many people have used it without problems that I am not concerned.

I am not sure about the potassium thing, it could be. Triton is specifically formulated to be used with macro algae so most likely if the macros consume extra K they have compensated for that.

I just pasted the 6 month mark from resetting the tank and switching to Triton. So far no issues, if you have been following this thread, that is a big deal as the tank was having such problems keeping any frags for more than 3 months without some problem.

Here are a few pictures from last night.

Joe,
How long are the Triton Elements lasting you?

This is what you are buying and using correct?
http://uniquecorals.com/triton-base-elementz.html

Also, how much zinc and manganese are you dosing on a daily basis?

Yup that is what I am using. It lasts me 4 weeks. I am up to 320ml a day.

I am separately dosing
Iodine 0.01 mg/l per day
Manganese Mn 0.0006 mg/l daily
Zinc Zn 0.0008 mg/l daily

My last round of ICP tests showed none of those elements were accumulating, I had been dosing at those levels about 3-4 weeks before sending my water sample out to be tested.

Thank you. I'm wondering if it's about the same cost to use Triton Elementz as it is to do water changes. It's looking to be close to buying salt every month and factoring in energy costs...

Do you see yourself starting up your calcium reactor again once your SPS take off and demand gets higher?

I'm with Joe in this one.. Never seen a downside to using RSRs

If this isn't a poster for triton, I don't know what is..
Another mind blowing groups of shots.. Can't wait to see this tank in another 6 months..
Is that a pink lemonade- first shot?

Thanks Matt, it is not a pink lemonade, it was from ReefGen as a new acro they were working on releasing. But they have since lost all their frags and the mother colony, so I am one of the only people with this frag right now. I am tracking down the other person to see if they still have a frag.

The price is not far off with not having to do water changes, within $15 bucks probably, Also I get back about an hour each week from not having to setup and do the water change.

I'm not sure what I am going to do with the calcium reactor. Right now I am ok with dosing, having the Neptune DOS hooked into my Apex really makes it so much easier than it was when I was using the ca reactor.

Well, it's looking pretty special..
So many corals, so little space.... :(

I was going to say it looked like a new ReefGen piece Joe......... you're clueless when it comes to acro names Matt :rolleye1:

Acros and in particular the colors are looking really rich and scrummy Joe, no probs with reds/pinks i see - and no Matt, it's not a Pink Lemonade either......
