JBNY's 270 Ver2.0

Best pikachu ive seen to date! Which vendor is that from? Mine is ugly green with brown polyps..

Thanks, I got it from Unique Coral

Hi Joe, I also have a tiny frag of Fire Polyp but it has been sitting there doing nothing for almost 10 months. People say it is very finicky. Is yours a fast grower? Where do you place it in relationship of light and flow?

I bought mine about 11 months ago, my tank only started doing better about 5 minths ago but for me it was been a pretty good grower.

Joe, watching the video of your reef...

Do you have a pair of Flame Angels or a Trio?

Also, do you have an interruptus Angel in there? Or is it a freakishly huge flameback?

Trio of flame angels. Also that is a flameback angel, I don't know if I would say it is freakishly huge though.

I should say I had a trio of Angels. I just lost two the other week when I put the Potters Angel (Centropyge potteri) in. Lost the Potters Angel too. I was not happy.

Hopefully I can pick up two more flames this weekend.

You don't worry about them reducing pe?
I added one golden dwarf angel and I've lost 70% of my pe.. I'm not happy.
I watch him going around and picking at the sps polyps.. As well as everything else.

Joe,
Last set of photos reveal some amazing coloration and health. Whatever you are doing, the tank seems to be appreciating it at the moment :) Great update!!!

They do but it doesn't really bother me. Corals still grow and color up just the same. Corals in the wild never have their polyps out in the daytime so it doesn't really concern me. If I ever want to look at crazy polyp extension I can always look at the corals in my frag tank downstairs. Its' plumbed into the same system but there are no fish in it so the polyp extension is crazy.

Thanks! The tank is really starting to look good, now it's just about waiting for the frags to fill in.

The tank is still looking goood, I'll post some pics later this week when I have more time.

I had sent an ICP test out to be done last week and received the results back on Sunday. The test came back in less than 7 days which is really quite quick. Anyway, overall I am really happy with it. Some of the main points for me are:

Strontium (Sr) - I dosed enough to bring levels of Sr to about 9 at end of March. Levels are 6.6 beginning of May. So I probably lose about 1 mg/l a month. So I am going to dose weekly a little less than .25 mg/l

Molybdenum (Mo) Very high. Back in March, I dosed enough Mo to bring the levels to about 9. I then started using a Nitrate additive with Mo, this coincided with a terrible outbreak of Cyano. High Mo is thought by some to cause cyano so it is very interesting seeing these levels in my tank. Going back well over a year ago, I have always had very low levels of Mo (~2)and almost no cyano in the tank until very recently.

Zn and Mn and I. I have been doing at fairly high levels daily and they are not showing up at all. So now I feel a little more at ease with my dosing regimen.

Vanadium (V) I had dosed back in February and stopped because it looked like V was accumulating and not being used very quickly. It's slowely going down. Now that I know how much is being used monthly I should be able to dose it if needed.

PO4 is nice and low at 0.02

Here are the results of the test.

Joe,
I see some really high end corals that look amazing in your tank, you have really dialed things in, I am very happy to see the success you are having!
Great work Joe :)
Cheers,

Joe, the video is really cool. It really shows just how dramatic the growth has been in your tank over the last 6 months. pretty crazy.

now, does this coral have a name?
I am seriously not going to rest until i have a piece of this in my tank...
it is absolutely the single most amazing piece of coral i have ever seen..
Not to mention how fantastic your photos are, as well!

It looks like Pink Floyd to me however the growth is a little different looking compared to mine which could just be flow related.
