JBNY's 270 Ver2.0

Really nice! Like, crazy good!
So, zinc, magnesium and iodine are all the you are dosing for trace these days?
Kno3, I know you are using to keep n up a bit..

Yup, that's all. I just started adding some AA into my KNO3 mixture. But I just did that yesterday so that has not had any time to do anything.

Battlecorals Fire Polyp is finally looking more pink like it is supposed to. Excited that it is tabling but really getting some nice color too.

blueberry fantasy is starting to grow and keeping the color, I really want to see how this one turns out.

Soda Pop is slowly growing.

And this wild coral continues to get better.

Interesting skimmer. I haven't heard of that kind before. I'll have to look that one up Thanks for the review there. Looks nice.

What's the black running down the outside of the drain fitting under the collection cup?

Wow I am surprised that the new skimmer is able to keep up with that Beckett, that's a mind blower for me. Do you think the Beckett would be able to keep a heavier fed tank better than the new skimmer?
What pump did you have on the Beckett before the dc pump and did it run the skimmer better than the dc?

Ultra Reef is an Italian company. I think they are just getting into markets outside of their home country. The black running down the drain connector is skim mate, I didn't have the connector screwed in all the way.

I have a pretty heavy load of fish and feeding right now. 65 fish and I feed 13 cubes of mysis, 3 cubes of cyclopeeze and 6 two finger pinches of pellets every day. It's the heaviest bio load I've ever had.

I had an MDM Sequence 6000 on the beckett before, definitely a stronger pump but it was throttled back. The Abyzz 200 is a DC pressure pump too (not as strong), I didn't notice any difference in performance on the beckett skimmer. With the DC pump I sacrificed some of the flow going to the main tank in favor of keeping enough pressure into the beckett so it would not under perform.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like my bioload. But I use frozen packets of food so I am not sure how much I feed exactly. Are you using any carbon sources? Sorry I haven't had time to read the whole thread.

No, I use activated carbon (1/2 cup per 100 gallon) every month. But I stopped all carbon dosing and GFO a little over 1 1/2 years ago.

Your Fox flame is really nice! One of my favorite acros for sure. I've never seen a large colony of it, but I'm sure it'd be amazing.

Tank looks great Joe. That is a lot of fish. At your stocking density I could have 29 fish in my 120. Are most of them small?

I'm planning on letting this one grow out, I want to see what it looks like too.

Tanks! Yeah almost all are small fish. Most fish I've ever had, we will see how it works out but so far it's no issue on the tank.

Which as much as your feeding and your heavy bio load, do you feel you need to still dose no3 and aminos?

Yes. If I don't my nitrates will drop. I am just adding enough nitrates daily to maintain 5ppm of N in the tank.

The reason I ask is because a lot of time when I look at the TOTM threads lots of them say nitrates are undetectable. I wonder how they get away with zero nitrates. I always figured it was heavy feeding and high bio load. I dosed some potassium nitrate and got and still have cyano from it but my sps coral colors improved.

I would have undetectable nitrates if I did not dose nitrate. I have this many fish mostly in an attempt bring nitrate levels up. Many people as well as TOTM reefers still think you should have zero nitrates and phosphates, but that is not true. Years ago we tried to keep N and P as low as possible because the equipment we used wasn't as good as it is now and it was more different to keep low N and P so the safe move was keep it as low as possible. As time progressed and we became able to keep nutrients at near zero levels suddenly we had problems that reef keepers had not had before. So what we realized was that corals look better and are more healthy with a little N and P.

Corals are looking great! The Rainbow and Flame are a little different then the standard colors seen.
I would like to ask, are you feeding coral foods as well as feeding the fish? [Reef roids, Coral Frenzy, etc. etc.]

Can you take a feeding time pic? I would like to see the herd.

this morning, iPhone pic.

i think most of the pictures posted are from tanks that are lit with LEDs so they are mostly blue and most people end up using gel filters to get it so the colors show up. Anyway I'm using MH and T5 so maybe that is the difference.

I don't use any coral food. Tried most of them, I don't think they do much if anything.
