Finally a pic I took of the fish getting ready to be fed one morning before going to work.

Stunning Joe
Your still dosing Zn & Mn but still nothing registered on the ICP ?
I'm dosing AF Comp ABC & have had readings on my Zn but never anything on my Mn.
I'm going to switch over & try out KZ's Coral system 1234 & see if there's any differance.
PS - both tests my W was 0 if thats of any help

Thank you.

I am still dosing Zn and Mn. Last test I was getting Zn readings, this one I was not. Which just leads me to believe that my consumption increased and I need to adjust my dosage. Mn I think it is taken up very quickly, I spent a lot of time over the summer speaking with the chem guys to make sure that my Mn was not oxidizing in the dosing container before I could use it. I now only mix up enough to dose in a 30-45 day period.

Yeah for W I'm not sure what to think about that. Most people's test that I have seen have 0. So I think it definitely a contaminate that got in the system somehow, I am just not sure what it could be.

Thank you.

Thanks!

I'm sure you have gone over this before but would you please give me a little run down on your micro element dosing methods and products. I see you use Triton?

Well done Joe! Looks like your tank is really making some fantastic progress.

Love your light set up by the way. I'm pretty much running the same thing, except using a single build your own actinic led strip. Wish they were still around because I think I need another strip. Most likely I'll probably get a reefbrite.

Corals look super. The pigmentation is excellent.

I'd like to also request a quick run down of the element dosing and which target certain colours. Many thanks.

Tank is looking great Joe.
Is your P slightly elevated compared with previous tests?

Thanks guys for the kind words, the tank is indeed doing very well. I couldn't be happier with it right now. I've had a few people over the house the last couple of weeks and I think they were pretty impressed with the look and coloration of the corals and probably more impressed with the amount of fish in the tank right now, it just looks like a real reef.

I am dosing the standard Triton Base Elements, 331ml a day. I run an ARID C30 algae reactor filled with chaeto for N and P removal. As far as trace element dosing, I dose daily my own blend of Zinc, Iodide, and Manganese (soon to add Potassium still working that out though). I also dose KNO3 to keep Nitrates around 5 ppm. Every two weeks I add some strontium, and now Vanadium.

I am not targeting anything specifically for color, rather I am focusing on a variety of elements that I feel are important to acropora that are outside of the standard we normally keep track of and just trying to keep them either at a specific level, or if that is not possible (as with Manganese) at least adding strong amounts of daily additions to keep it available for the corals to use.

The elements I have been targeting are Vanadium, Zinc, Manganese, Iodine, Strontium, and Potassium. Potassium a lot of people are tracking too, I just make sure it is between 400-450 ppm. Alk I have been keeping around 7.7-8.3 dkh pretty steady though at 7.7. Ca at 450, Magnesium at 1420. Nitrates at 5-10 ppm (I will reduce my Nitrate dosing if it reaches 10 but try to keep it solid at or slightly over 5 ppm) and PO4 at roughly at 100:1 ratio of N to P so 5 ppm of Nitrate is 0.05 ppm of PO4.

Kevin, yes the PO4 is a little higher than it was last time. But with trying to keep that 100:1 ratio it is probably right in line with what my NO3 was (between 5 and 10 ppm). As you can see from the pictures there is no algae on the rocks or sand.

Man you have some beautiful colors and perfect growth patterns!

Thank you, I tried to make sure I, one picked corals that I knew would color up, and two would have small compact growth forms. No staghorns and just a few tables.

I also have been keeping frags on the bottom of the tank and only moved them up and then permanently attach them if they are showing the kind of coloration I want to have in the tank.

Well I give you props, it's hard to keep things put sometimes when cors aren't right on newer pieces. Your taste in acros I like. Your keeping some nice orange yellow and red corals which is tough to do imo. Looking forward to updates in the future.
How much kno3 do you have to dose daily to keep nitrates up?

Joe, when you are dosing the KNO3 are you targeting both the K and NO3 levels simultaneously, or are you adding the K in the form of KCl?

Thanks, yeah in the past I had never had as good luck as I am having right now with reds and yellow and orange.

I am dosing about .2 ppm of KNO3 a day. For me that is 6ml.

Just Nitrate with the KNO3, there is not enough Potassium in that to make any noticeable difference. Right now I am just using Brightwell's additive for Potassium, but I will probably use KCl in the future,
