JCole's box of rocks

I was going to do that but I want to be able to dose each one individually. I am using potassium chloride for the K and ammonium bicarbonate to help build up some nitrogen and food in the system. Once I get everything dialed in then I might try potassium nitrate for a maintenance dose.

My K is testing around 300 and NO3 is 0.04. Very low on both. I need to get those up.
300? I would get that up to at least 380ppm quickly, and then slow down to about 10ppm per day. I got down to 310ppm and definitely saw almost no growth until dosing it back up to 400ppm in a few days, and then slowly worked it up to 450-460ppm. Unfortunately, I will just be mostly guessing until Salifert can get more kits produced. I have a test kits that's probably 1/3 used, but now I'm testing far less with no new kits in sight.

Wait to you hear K tested at 280, but I chalked it up to a testing error. At least that is what I told myself. ;)

K is back up to 400–420, and NO3 is on the rise.

I had the perfect storm, and I am lucky I didn't lose anything major. I have neglected my tank priorities over the last couple of months, and not testing was one of those. Corals started to look starved a month ago, and I chalked it up to lighting. Well, it turns out it was more than just lighting. I robbed the tank of the key elements of life. Sunlight and nutrients. Not good.

Also, Taricha over on R2R is working on a DIY solution that works with the Hanna ULR checker. They have it now where it works with Red Sea, etc but it's hard to source those as well due to the EU's regulations. He is working on a test that we can make ourselves.

I saw that. I'm not on r2r much at all, but I've been watching that thread and a couple others. I hope something gets figured out. Icp does not measure potassium well at all. Hell, the only thing I got back that matched what I feel was accurate is boron. Silicate and and alkalinity. Calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc. Were all wonky.

I winder how many mysterious SPS heavy tabk crashes have been due to potassium deficiency. Icp is unreliable for testing it. Feeding nori apparently adds a good bit of K, but I don't feed that. I have enough au natural salad for the fish. Lol

My motto going forward is to dump and pray!!

Another bucket list coral! I think I’ll just start living my tank through your tank

It really is something special. It is the bluest coral I have ever seen. The Oregon Tort is blue but the HOTO has such a deep color to it that it makes the Oregon Tort look pale. It is one of the hardest pieces to take a picture of as well. I received a filter for my phone yesterday and was finally able to get close to the blue.

How’s your growth rate? I’ve heard it’s a fairly slow grower. Did you get it from JDA or Peng directly? Just curious

Yes, it is very slow! What you see there is about two years of growth. Granted that is also through a crash and a tank upgrade.

I got it from a guy who got it from JDA, who got it from Peng.

If you slow growth, you'll like the superman tenuis. 🤣 I have 2 others that grow slower, but man that superman is so slow. Really needs some intense lighting to take off.
Hard to get the blue in a photo. It's really intense. A bit dull lately, but po4 is up 0.01ppm more than usual and I started dosing trace elements heavier. Now, just a bit more light and I should be good to go.

@JCOLE @Jposch damn you. Now I really need to get my upgrade done. I’m jonesing for Acros as much as I did back in the 90’s.

I’m regretting buying the 75 for the upgrade and wish I would have gone 120. With tank prices where they are today, I may be stuck with upgrading to the 75 unless I can find a used 120.

Keep a look out. I regularly see 120’s-180’s in my area.
