Jcr's Rimless

I also received my pendants today. They definitely exceeded my expectations as I have never seen them in person before. They are exactly what I was looking for. I also really like the built in cable adjuster. Pretty Nifty

Hopefully I will have them hung tomorrow.

And now the long process begins. Even though I am not done under the tank yet, I figured I would go ahead and start filling her up to get started on the liverock seeding.

Well I finally got the tank filled up and have added the salt and a few pieces of Liverock to seed it. Right now the tank is lit by 2 T5's until I remove the MH ballast from my other tank. I also threw in a couple of modded maxijets to get things going as well. So far the only thing I do not like about my build is running a filter sock. I hate how quickly it starts foaming up over the filter sock. Maybe its just because its a new tank.

The skimmer is finally starting to settle down a little as well. Its far from breaking in yet but I'm glad it overflowed the way it did right off the bat as it helped me find 4 leaks in the collection cup which would have allowed skim mate to drain back into my tank. Needless to say, this is the second one that has done it so instead of sending it back for another faulty replacement, I used heavy weldon on 16 to fill in the gaps causing the leaks. I found the first one leaked when I ran it in a tub of vinegar.

Thanks legolas

After 4 days of running the skimmer is finally starting to settle down and pull. Everything is looking real good. No leaks. Now I'm just trying to decide where I want to mount everything.

Well its almost there. Got most of the wiring done and somewhat organized. Also finally hooked up the metal halides. I love the spread of these Hamilton Pendants. For 150 watts, they are bright.
I also got around set up the RKE last night and it ran great for about 12hrs. Then the temp. probe decided to take a crap on me. Quality folks, quality! Guess I'll have to call and see if they replace them under warranty. I also need to run/buy another PC4 for my dosing pumps. So I'll be running (3)PC4's

The absolute worst part of the hobby, "Diatom bloom", is what's happening now. The tank is going through a cycle, a big one. Hopefully it clears out quickly.
PH- only 7.8 (still waiting for more sand)
Amm- .10
Nitrate- 10
Nitrite - .25
PO4 - .36 - .40
CA - 480
ALK - 10 dkh
Mag- didn't test
I started dosing MB7 and Vodka to help drive these numbers down. Skimmer instantly started pulling a little more

Added two of these guys a few days ago. They settled in real quick and already come up to the front of the tank when I approach it.

Called P.A. today and the Tropic Eden I plan on using is still on back order. Supposedly it's sitting in customs waiting to be released. Hopefully it's only going to be a couple more weeks so I can get this thing moving. I tried to use the mini-flakes Premium sent me (wrong item) but its a little to fine for the current I have going throughout the tank. Luckily I only put 1/4 of the bag in. I'll wait for the original reef-flakes I ordered.

Did some more test tonight to see how the tank is cycling. It's going through it pretty quick so maybe next week I can start adding a little more to it. I think it's safe enough to start adding a CUC.

Man the past month has flew by. Finally decided to take the risk and plumb in my 40L frag tank (stocked full) to help establish the new rimless. Moved a few SPS frags over to see how they hold up against the algae in the new tank. They lost a little bit of color going from T5's to MH's but thats to be expected. They have good polyp extension and even a little bit of growth. I was scared the hair algae would over come them but my big sailfin tang has the algae in check for the most part. With the 40L plumbed in, everything is looking good. Still want to get a few more algae grazers but that will come in time. Once summer calms down a little bit I'll start dialing everything in and hook up my dosing pumps (No they aren't hooked up yet).

Fish list so far:
Sailfin Tang (had for a 1 1/2 yrs now)
Pair of Flame wrasses (had for 1yr now)
Blue spotted Leopard wrasse (had for 1yr now, eats everything)
Pair of Striped Cardinals
3 Blue eyed Cardinals
Yellow Candy hog-fish -stays small (picks on shrimp)
2 blue damsels
Harlequin Starfish
Strawberry Starfish
Red Thorny Starfish
Black Urchin

Took a couple of shots today before I cleaned the tanks up. My 40 gallon is now plumbed into my rimless tank to help establish my new tank and compete with the hair algae. I'm winning the battle and my new tank is almost completely rid of it except for a few patches. Also bought a Powder Blue tang a couple of days ago and put him in my established 40 gallon for so I can observe him first. I just want to make sure he's eating good before I add him to the fish community.
