jebao vs vortech

On my 180 I use a Tunze non controllable on one side with a Vortech MP40 on the other. My wifes 65 has MP10 and my 65 at work Tunze 6040.

Good Point! :D I actually made the mistake of buying a Red Sea Berlin skimmer as my first choice in 2006. So glad that's not around in my house anymore!

:lmao:

Even that was probably better than the SeaClone. In my defense it was the bigger version. I think there was a SC 100 and SC 160? The 160 was the cats butt according to them.

The SC was my first choice on the first reef tank I ever had, I think 2003 or 2004. Its good to see far more effective choices in the hobby now...including Jebao. There was some utter crap back then, I would have been better off sticking a straw in the water and blowing bubbles for a skimmer.

This is what I think too. I will ask Roger. That is a great idea. Although you really hear a lot of good about their customer service. Thank you so much.

No problem.

Roger from Tunze is almost legendary as far as service goes :)

But other "newer" (relatively speaking) companies like Ecotech and Octopus, etc are also great in both products and service.

I am pretty excited about my new powerhead coming in. And I wanted to say that Amazon credited me the day I mailed the Jebao to them. That is pretty awesome customer service. So between the credit and 10% off Tunze at BRS I did pretty good money wise. And if I need to add an additional powerhead to the other side of my aquarium I will wait for a black friday deal.

I just ordered the Tunze 6055. I am super excited!

I am so disappointed in the flow pattern. I had a hard time understanding how to get the thing to work too. Embarrassing, I know...I have it pulsing like I want but it is just not as powerful as the jebao I had before. I did not think the cord was a big deal because I fed it up thru a hole drilled in the top brace, but the wire is not detachable from the controller. So I will have to figure that out another time. I guess I am going to have to get another powerhead for the other side soon, but I think I will just get the ac powered.

The 6055 is pretty small for a 180, how did you choose that one? IMO the 6095 would be the minimum size for a 180 and you would want two of them. Before buying anything else, ask Roger in the Tunze section what he would do. My 6100 was too narrow of a flow pattern for my 40x40 tank, he sent me the shrouds off a 6200 and it was perfect.

Thanks for the suggestion Jack. I will post a question to him tonight. My 180 is 5 ft long and an all softy tank. The Jebao I had ran at around 1000 gph and worked very well for my tank, so I figured the 6055 would work well. And I thought I would add another to the other end next Black Friday sale.

I believe Roger used to do a softy tank in his home but he knows better than anyone what would be ideal and what would work.

Even at 5' the 6055 doesn't have the oomph to move enough water.

I realize you went with tunze, but I'll throw my experience out there.

I have 2 mp10qd's and 2 jebao pp8's. Hands down the vortechs move way more water in a wider flow pattern then the jebaos's. But what I do like about the jebao's besides the price, coupled to my apex I can start and stop them and define any amount of programming I want. Unlike the vortechs which your stuck to the flow patterns they determined would be best.

If when I initially setup this tank money wasn't an issue, I would have gone with 2 mp40's instead of the jebao's.

If I could do MP10s I would but my aquarium is overbuilt at 3/4 inches thick.
